A new version of the Blacktron Renegade is coming out in January for $100/€99.99/£89.99. It's been redesigned a lot more than the Galaxy Explorer was.

This looks great! I like how it can be rebuilt into the walker, the brick-built Blacktron logos, and how many detachable parts there are. At first I thought this could transform into a Blacktron outpost judging by the scaffolding (there's probably a way to rebuild it into that).

The lack of tubes or yellow radar bits, as well as a number of other severe deviations bothers me. The galaxy explorer was a 1 to 1 upscaled remake while this feels more like benny's spaceship from the lego movie in terms of design philosophy. Still a great visual that proves lego can still make cool concept space shit. Here's hoping they actually do more space stuff sometime not locked behind one off sets or melded into the city astronaut stuff.

EDIT: The gap in the center of the new one makes it look like there was something that was supposed to be stored there.
EDITX2: OH JUST SAW THE TINY BIT ON THE BOX ART THAT SHOWS IT'S NOW A PLACE TO PUT THE BUGGY OK. Still, should have been on the box somewhere!
EDITX3: AAAAAARGH IT WAS THEREON THE SIDE NOT SHOWN

EDITX4 I DO NOT WANT TO DOUBLE POST:
Youtube has been recommending me youtube lego "influencers" already making shitty video essays about how "controversial" or"brave" this set is. I don't fucking get how people crank shit out so fast and how it's always like the most pretentiousthing over something that's neither controversial or brave. It's literally just a modernized remake of a well liked set, something they've BEEN FUCKING DOING FOR YEARS. Yeah it's not one to one but neither was the classic space remake stuff they made in the benny ship sets for the lego movie and the lego movie 2.

Also didn't bring this up in my earlier edits but I didn't like the brick built blacktron logos being weirdly spaced out until I saw in the stock photos that they're actually speeders shaped like the logo. That's right you can just put a minifig in the middle of them that's fucking cool.

I got this as a Christmas gift. So far I am 3/17 of the way there. I'll show you a picture of my completion once it's done.

Though I never been to that castle itself, I have been to the prefecture where that castle was located. But it does remind me of another castle I went to in Osaka, Japan.

The custom modernized blacktron guys I made recently's torsos fucking cracked. I have never experienced a minifig torso cracking aside from the light grey plastic of 2010-2015-ish. It cracked just like those where it'slike a weird buttery smooth crack that looked like a weird scratchunless you look at it wrong. I thinkit might be the star wars legs causing it or something that happened to the torsos in shipping I don't fucking known but it pisses me off because I've noticed there's some sllersclearly buying up the torsos and minifig it comes from and then relisting the torso at like 8 or 10 dollars now probably due tot he new blacktron ships coming out. it was a hassle getting these sanely priced ones due to that but now I gotta deal with lego crack plague. Hopefully it doesn't spreadto my other minifigs I don't know if this is like somekind of mummys mold curse or some shit (probably not but still FUCK MAN) At least they look fine from a distance but one of the cracks was down the fucking MIDDLE.

Anyways I've been debating getting the renegade or the cruiser before scalpers inevitably scoop up all of them, and in unrelated news walmart by me had lego on clearance for once ever in a while. The death egg fucking robot. Technically it was already on discount on amazon for around this for a few months on and off but fuck man I just fucking grabbed it and got it with some gift money i got from a relative. Didn't build the speed chucker thing I just wanted the robot.

EDIT: Got the cruiser because someone gave me an offer that was less than what itd' have been to order it from anyone else since i missed all the 30 dollar listings that werent' tacking on sneaky ass 20 dollar shipping and handling fees. Still came out to 40 something in the end thanks to tax and shipping being weirdly expensive but it wasn't fucking 20 dollars bare minimum shipping FUCK sellers that do that. Mad about paying 44 but it's closertoMSRP tan the sneaky fucking extra fees would have made it and it's genuinely just shipping/tax that got it to 40-ish.

Also it's weird the cruiser isn't called the invader when it's 100% a modernized remake of the invader and the renegade has it's original name despite being redesigned, but probably legalese shit behind that.

I wonder if these are CGI or AI like that guy who faked the Kaminoan minidoll leak a while back. We'd better get a full-on Gundam theme if they're willing to do One Piece (and allegedly DBZ). Better yet, make a full Macross theme with transforming VFs since the actual designs are built from Lego in the initial draft stage.

I usually don't care about Fortnite crap, but . . .

There is NO EXCUSE for a Macross theme now. None. And there better be or else Lego is headed for unmatched levels of cringe. At least we'll always have City, Ninjago, and Monkie Kid as our bastions.

We're getting closer to the Lego One Piece sets reveal
Based on the "ok but kinda inaccurate adaptation" NETFLIX version with overpriced merch instead of the infinitely more popular anime/manga? What the fuck were they thinking?
Well i guess this not only means that weird "not lego" brand I can't remember the nameof that had official one piece sets a few years back is gonna be the only way to get ok minifigs and we're never gonna see lego reuse that nose headed piece they used int he one CMF that's be like perfect for usopp if they just like made it tan and put his face on it.

I don’t know why I couldn’t ever get into the space shit. Just never clicked with me, maybe because I liked buildings more than vehicles (though pirate ships sent me).

OK, but what about space buildings?
They all had the same problem, they’re usually just giant domes with no substance.

They spent so much piece count in the ships that they couldn’t spare much for the buildings.

Though some of the best sets in town did something similar like with poolside paradise or the hospitals.

And so the Internet gets ever smaller and more original content from decades back is lost forever. Fuck.
Going through Brickshelf is interesting because you can see lots of things that would get used in official sets get used in MOCs years beforehand. There was a Blacktron MOC from 2016 that used the same physical yield sign logo the new set uses, and here's a MOC from 2008 that's very similar to the Alien Conquest truck.
