Lena Dunham - Fat, Child Molesting Attention Whore and Her Trainwreck of a Family

Melissa McCarthy is so successful because she has zero vanity when it comes to her roles. She's fine with playing crass, brash and gross because that's what her niche is, and at the end of the day she's laughing all the way to the bank and to the Oscars.

McCarthy plays all the roles, but her characters are complex too. In Bridesmaids, she's shown being crass and very in-your-face, but then you see her vulnerable side when she goes to Annie's house to tell her how she should stop feeling sorry for herself because she never did so despite her life wasn't easy.

Lena's characters and her own real life is nothing but feeling sorry for herself and demanding everybody else to feel sorry for her as well despite she's an overprotected trustfund baby whose only problem is to be too bored to care.

Lena's "I ended my relationship with the scale" weight gain is already extremely noticeable (at the Veep season premiere a week ago):

^She has to be on pills again. What's with that dopey, zoned out expression?

Jesus...she goes out of her way to find the ugliest, most unflattering outfits she can.
I believe any woman, with the right makeup, hair, and clothing can look good, but Lena is eroding that belief.
I don't think I've ever seen her dressed in a flattering way, nor with appropriate hair and makeup.
Stylists would throw themselves at you, Lena! Use one!

The scale dumped her for someone who actually pays attention to it. Good for you, scale.

Just the sort of fashion no fat woman should wear. The only thing worse would be broad horizontal stripes.

And there is no way a woman in her position could not know that, so the outfit is part of the "I'm fat fuck you" deal.

"I'm fat fuck you" is not just an offhand retort, it is a lifestyle and an absolute moral commitment.

No one would care how squidgy Lena is if she was a) funny and b) not a child molester.

"Squidgy comedienne" is a well inhabited genre. Roseanne was pretty much THE TV comedy of the 90s, this isn't new ground. Melissa McCarthy gets plenty of quality roles and plenty of money to do them. Aidy Bryant's doing fine. Outside America, the UK has many, many comediennes who are considered "not traditionally attractive" - Jo Brand, Miranda Hart, Catherine Tate, Sarah Millican - and they are hugely successful and respected. Fuck it, Victoria Wood is considered one of the greatest comedy writers this country ever produced.

The choices Lena makes about how to present herself physically are not at this point going to make a fucking bit of difference to her career. People were never paying her to be pretty in the first place.

This reminds me of that line from 30 Rock after Jenna had gained some weight, Jack said something like "she has to lose 20 pounds or gain 60." It does seem like Hollywood has no room (no pun intended) for actors who are merely chubby. It's either really skinny (or swole for men) or really fat. Although Dunham won't have much trouble reaching really fat.

I think it's on purpose. There's no reason for her not to dress well given her wealth and connections. Even if she has bad taste, she could pay someone to have good taste for her. I'd guess either she does this to draw attention to herself by looking like shit (which probably does get her more attention than if she dressed like everyone else in the entertainment industry) or she's trying to make some sort of statement about beauty/feminism/whatever.

The "thing" she is wearing wouldn't look good on anyone. It's just hideous. Besides who is wearing pajamas to red carpet? She is a porker already on the way to become a sperm whale, and I agree it's a big eff you to everyone, I think she is hoping for criticism, because well, any attention is good, amirite Lena?

Here we can criticize her freely, as it is not the kind of attention she craves. So I would like to add, that she looks like frumpy 40 year old with this double chin, especially on the picture juxtaposing her with other women her age.

Maybe it’s like those dazzle-camo battleships with the stripes running every which way so you can’t tell how big exactly they are or how they’re shaped. This is just camo clothing so your eyes go funny and crossed upon looking at it and you don’t notice the weight gain.

Or maybe it’s just the only outfit that the only designer who would dress her would lend.

Love how the huge sign behind her says “Eep” in that photo.

Yes, and these were subplots, themes, or even entire episodes within Tiny Furniture and Girls.

In Girls, the episode where pasty, dumpy, lipless Lena stumbles upon a wealthy, handsome doctor and has an intense sexual and emotional weekend fling with him was so incredibly factitious to be almost comical.

Maybe the appeal of her shows is porn for straight women, they want to see a dumpy woman getting dates with movie stars so they can imagine themselves doing it.
