Modern "feminism" has this bizarre idea that the more hideous and repellent you are to the ideals of a civilized society the more progressive you are. I don't know where the concept originated but Dunham and her homegirl Schumer are the results.

To be frank, I do enjoy the show Girls but in a sort of hate-watchy way. The characters are repugnant and I think at one point Lena wanted us to root for them, but now we're left just gawking at these 4 annoying bitches who whine constantly when they don't get their way. Still, I chalk up the watching to HBO-style quality.
Basically Lena was fucked from jump street. Her parents are typical Manhattanite elitist liberals who are the most privileged people in the entire world but don't actually do anything to help the less fortunate. They believe their 'art' is enough to give a voice to the voiceless, and while the parents may have had to work hard to start, they gave their children an insanely privileged upbringing which is never good enough to a habitual narcissist such as Lena.

The only criticism of her from the Left I've seen had something or other asking about why the version of New York City in her television show is populated entirely by upper middle class white people. Never seen the show so I can't confirm that is the case, but I've never seen anything about sister fisting, false rape accusations, etc. from anybody I'd guess voted Hillary.

Ive seen a lot of feminists and SJWs criticize and try to denounce her, for the sister stuff but more often for being a peak "white feminist" in their terms. Dunham, Amy Schumer, and Jennifer Lawrence are all on the problematic list for at least a lot of Tumblr/twitter feminists. I think your average young feminist who isn't as involved with the ever-changing tide of who's acceptable and who's not is still on Team Lena, though.
Also this might be more from individual feminists than the big feminist media groups, who seem pretty supportive of her.
She definitely got a lot of flack for the "I wish I had an abortion" comment.

Also for as much as people criticize the lack of black people in New York as an unrealistic aspect of her show, I'd say the bit about a bunch of dumpy, spoiled, awkward feminist blogger types consistently being able to bang hot dudes is far more unrealistic. Seriously, irl if those types get any action it tends to be with at best average-looking dudes with severe self esteem issues ala Jake Rapp. No Chad Thundercock is gonna waste his time with some freakish Little Critter-looking thing that's always going on about the patrilluminati in between diddling kids.

Not to mention the blatant hypocrisy of all this. These people go on and on about body positivity and how it's what's inside that matters, yet portray all the guys they're able to score with as chiseled Adonises. So you're content to portray yourself scoring with a hot guy, but not content to portray yourself scoring with someone in your own league because ew!
