You know, given all the recent lawyer talk, I don't think Shaner lacks a lawyer because he's actually planning on representing himself.

Well, if he has any sense at all, he can probably get a continuance at the next hearing to request time to retain counsel, or to have counsel appointed if he can't afford it. I've never heard of such a request being turned down.

Do you mind if I ask my Learned friend if you where his legal council what would you do? (If you want to reply by PM for obvious reasons thats cool).

If I were representing @Schuylkill Valley, I would tell him to shut up and not say anything. But since he seems constitutionally incapable of that, I'd probably have to consult Rob Bell. He has a good track record with getting defiant, narcissistic lolcow clients to shut up in court.

I wonder if Mr. Mayerson will be sending Mr. Shaner a sternly worded cease and desist letter on law firm letterhead. I suppose he could sue for harassment, or libel, but surely Mr. Mayerson has the resources to discover that Mr. Shaner has no assets worth taking.

@Saul Goodman you've done a great service. Can the court force an obviously incapbable defendant to accept a public defender, or will the judge wear out his gavel smacking down Len's irrelevant attempts to prove the train was speeding, or we're all assholes, or whatever?

I heard back sooner than I had anticipated.

@Schuylkill Valley, Hy Mayerson has never heard of you. And neither he nor any other lawyer would support you making bumptious legal threats ("he'll send you to jail," etc.) in their name.

Stop being a moron. I understand that you're a pathological liar. But at least try to tell lies that aren't so absurdly easy to disprove.
My oh my.

What do you have to say for yourself, @Schuylkill Valley? What sort of lie will you spin to explain this?

If only he watched Law & Order reruns. Then he'd know that in the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime, & the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.

These are their stories.

Amirite?

So can a non-autistic tell me why len is in court? Like how did he try to derail a train like he derails this thread with irrelevant information?

I'm still of the belief that any lawyer defending Lenny boy would simply give the "Adult Autistic Child" argument that Rob Bell used perfectly to save Chris.

He was trespassing on the property of one of the many railroads he's banned from. In addition to that, he somehow obtained three charges of reckless endangerment, and apparently isn't sure how he got them himself. We're not really sure what those charges come from. The idea that it's from derailing a train I believe is traced back to an instance in which he went to place some stuff on a railroad track to mess with any train that would've come by. I believe he was intending to record it, but a crew happened to be sent out that day for maintenance, and saw him waddling away suspiciously, and found and removed the stuff on the tracks. Though I'm only a part time Lenographer, so I'm sure @Zim or @Gook Choy could do it more justice.

If he's found competent (which he definitely is by legal, if not practical, standards), they can't prevent him from defending himself. This could get very interesting.

The problem is... unlike Chris, Shaner is more than likley going to try to fight this. As much as he should if he could, the attorney can't force Shaner to take a plea deal, no matter how much the DA has his balls to the wall.

God help that poor Public Defender if Shaner insists on taking the stand in his own defense.

Are we sure he's actually going to fight this? Like, he talks a tough game online, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that when the big day comes he's just going to stare at the floor and take whatever deal his court-appointed lawyer tells him to take.
Oh, I can definitely see him taking matters into his own hands.
Len is smugly certain that he can lie talk his way our of this whole mess.
He strikes me as the sort of kid who lied to his parents a lot and they were uninterested enough for him to get away with it.
