Slowbeef strikes me as someone who's of two minds: someone who knows politics have no place in his kind of humor and someone who can't help himself from injecting them into what he does. I think he's generally done a good job of keeping them out of RP (outside of the Mighty No 9 thing) and on his own channel, but probably why Retsupurae hasn't done shit in so long. The whole channel is based on mockery and derision, two things that don't coincide well with the crowds he's surrounded himself with, and he's self-aware enough to just feign hiatus so RP fans can stay happy with what's there hoping it will come back eventually, and also stop himself from pissing off his leftist Twitter mob who would hate that type of content. He can't please both audiences so he just keeps the channel perpetually up-in-the-air

The Gabe Newell of Let's Play, then.

i disagree with this they are fine with mockery and derision, they'd be ecstatic if it was against the 'correct' targets. I'm sure he could make a series dunking on [insert 90's transphobic videogame here] and his twitter spergs would love it but that doesnt make the content good or interesting to anyone outside of that sphere and if he cant get betus to do it i dont think most RP fans would be at all interested.
For example of them being into mockery and derision just look at the popularity of john oliver or stephen colbert ect.

Maybe, but I remember him posting he was going to do RP again a while back on Twitter which led to replies like "I hope it's not too mean." These are the types of people he surrounds himself with now, whether it's related to his lefty politics or not. I think at the core of it he doesn't want to piss off his Twitter crowd or his RP crowd

They originally moved away from RP because they were worried about getting flagged and taken down, which is also why they had backup accounts (the current RP account is one of them). If beef brings it back he'll pick easy, safe targets.

I'm one of those people that generally enjoyed wrongpurae/retsufrash just as much if not more than RP though, so I guess I don't give a shit.

I heard a couple other reasons as well. First, you had the issue with spergs finding the channel of the person being retsupuraed and flooding it with dumb bullshit (which they basically begged people to stop doing many, many times). Also, between the removal of the ten minute limit and the rise of facecams and streaming, it got a lot harder to find good candidates to make fun of on modern YouTube.

Honestly, as far as I'm concerned, Retsupurae ended with the riff on Japanese Darkseed 2.

The 50-part wrongpurae of Sonic 06 was when my attention teetered off. I'm still like three years behind their last upload, which itself is over two years old. I have no idea why they insisted on riffing a game which had been done to death for years by then.

I always saw Sonic 06 as a rite of passage that let's players from a certain era had to go through.

I agree, which makes you wonder why slowbeef waited until fucking December 2014 to do it.

I think it started as a one-off stream he did, then all the people in the comments were telling him to show it to Betus and it kind of went from there. I don't quite remember and I honestly don't care enough to go dig through all his old streams to find out for sure.

Honestly, Sonic 06 had a lot of good moments, but there was also a bunch of really dull videos in there as well. I can't say I blame anyone for not wanting to watch anything that long.

Sad, because I always thought the Pokecapn crew's struggle through it was just about the best Sonic 06 LP ever done: five or six spergs crammed into one room forcing their way through it in a 24-hour period, and all the shrieking tard rage that came along with it.

The progenitor doesn't always do things best.

Your whole post is pretty accurate but personally this was the dealbreaker for me. Half the time it got repetitive after 10 minutes, some RP of a dude’s shitty 2 hour video would be miserable to do and miserable to watch

I think I picked up that feeling with that Godlimations Zombie game, with the time limit.

Although I guess it wouldn't be as miserable as the 7 hour slog that is Dark Seed 2.

The big problem with the Sonic 06 LP is that part of it had that one guy, MegamanNG I think his name was, who was kind of a giant sperg but Slowbeef was too scared to kick him for whatever reason. I think he was also in a Cave Story stream that Proteus was part of but I might be misremembering. CherryDoom was definitely in it.

The CherryDoom video you're thinking of is probably this retsutalk. Where they let that guy make a fool of himself for 40 minutes and laugh at him under their breath while he remains oblivious the whole time.

He says Sonic Adventure 2 is the saddest videogame he's ever played, and spergs out about Sonic 06 and some other things. So I think slowbeef inviting him to the Sonic 06 stream was meant to be an extension of that. He wasn't "too scared to kick him", he knew exactly what he was doing.

To each their own, but imo their Sonic 2006 let's play was one of the best things they ever did. I've watched it from start to finish like 20 times (usually as background noise whilst I do other stuff).

For me it's less about the length of videos and more about whether they're consistently funny or not.
