Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

Weirdly enough he managed to rope a real girl into doing the voice of his imaginary girlfriend halfway through it. MageKnight knows how to get the ladies.
Holy shit. What I would have given to have been there when he posted that first VA video and see how he justified it "in universe" because you know he would and what the viewers' reactions were.

Reading about the transition of one of members of StrawhatNo was disheartening. I really enjoyed their sleeping dogs LP. Very high energy but they ran out of steam by the end.

Shame that Men Drinking Coffee also finished their run, they were a blast to listen to.

And speaking of groups: does anyone know what happened to the sodapopboys? To Iron Chitlin? Chorpsaway?
It seemed like the MDC had grown up, were all working steady jobs, gotten married, being successful adults, and didn't really have the time or energy to keep things going. I'd rather see them finish up like they did and not try and force out shittier and shittier videos.

Apparently Chorpsaway is doing some kind of date night podcast/videogame/stream thing with Devious Vacuum doing a bunch of visual novels. No idea on the quality of it, but it's visual novels, so the subject matter is most likely pretty rough.

I don't know what Iron Chitlin has been doing. He looks to have popped up a year or so ago and done a couple games, then wandered back off into the ether.

Loved the MDC. Glad to see them leave it behind and pursue fulfilling lives.

MDC were good. They were a spot of actual fun in a dying field of content and I liked their niche of playing shitty abortive action games like Ride to Hell, Golden Compass, Raven's Cry, MindJack, DARK, Duck Dynasty, Catwoman, Sonic Boom and so on. I also liked their sundry weird shit like their tabletop campaigns and GDQ commentaries. I used to go out of my way to catch their streams which I essentially never do for content creators who primarily do YouTube. I do know Chris streams on Twitch for fun now (MDCChris).

They also wisely separated themselves from SA pretty early on and I think that's part of why they stayed good. Judge suicided his SA account a couple of years ago to tell Lowtax to eat shit.

VoidBurger used to work at an "escape room" at some point before her Giant Bomb job, here she is whining about it:

Super Great Friend recently finished his let's play of Resident Evil 4 VR and it's well worth watching: genuinely one of the most consistently funny and entertaining let's plays in years:

Even if you have no interest in RE4 it's a great watch.

this dude doesn't get enough credit he's got some of the best LPs out there

deadly premonition and his zero escape streams are some of my favorites, his aliens: colonial marines playthrough and his "Games Nite" series of streams where he stumbled across one of the greatest hidden gems of all time, Laser Lords, are also fantastic

honestly all of his stuff is quite good, he's very consistent and doesn't bog his videos down with another personality to contend with or any sort of drama. just him and the games, but he carries the videos with his chill, smarmy commentary

...Are escape room tips a thing? I've never been to one but I don't consider this a kind of business that involves tipping.
They're also so rarely attended (compared to dining in, getting a haircut, ordering delivery etc.) that I don't see how the societal norm to tip them would even develop, or be expected at all, without it being desperately forced. Well I guess she could've had a giant "TIPS" cup at the front desk but that's about it.

Someone creates a fitting fursona for VoidBurger, reminds me of when someone made a weasel one for Zoe Quinn a few years back:

Slowbeef gets in on the Giant Bomb grift:

I wish Slowbeef would just nag Diabetus into making Retsupurae with him again instead of this crap. If Diabetus can stream a billion A Link to the Past randomizer sessions he can talk over shitty videogames for an hour a week. Also, why is VoidBurger listed as the author of that article when she didn't write anything in it except "Slowbeef is one of the first let's players"

Recent picture of Slowbeef and the most hideous shower curtain ever created:

He has very big hands doesn't he, all the better for grabbing shower curtains made of used tissues, it's 95% recycled and good for the environment unlike those naughty NFTs.

He probably wouldn't have such a high opinion of that BnB game if he didn't stream it with Diabeetus, I do wish they would try it make it more of a regular thing. Could they not also Retsupurea ancient videos, it's not likely the channel owners will still be around to strike them.

I see there is a "scarboy" in the comments, is that that the same guy from SA (whoever he was). Is it time for Giantbomb to launch Slowbeef and friends to the lofty heights of Pewdiepie that they so covet? (no).

Remember that "Adults React to Pewdiepie" video they did? Man, it aged poorly.
I also remember the DSP video they did, and while DSP sucks, honestly the joke that he 'outlasts' all these other LPers is kind of really funny contrasted with his constant "I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO D00D ACK ACK ACK". For some reason I kind of respect that this motherfucker has been able to skirt consequences for years. Dude may be completely isolated, miserable, and barely a human being but I dunno. Look at how fucked up everybody is I guess.

DSP managed to come out of bankruptcy smelling like roses despite evidence he was committing fraud.

You have to admire his endurance.

dsp's on his last leg now he gets like 30 views a stream people have no interest in him anymore
Never under estimate his paypiglets and their ability to throw large sums at him on demand. After all on Twitch he had the most generous fans out of every streamer according to third party statistics. This was the last time Slowbeef and DSP crossed paths as far as I know -

A random question about LPs that nobody will probably know or care about but I figure I will ask it anyway. Does anyone know of any active LPers that do post commentary? I only know of four that did it (at least I'm fairly certain they commented in post) - Research Indicates, Evil Tim/Cruelest Chris, Giragast, and KingEffingFrost, and other than something from Research Indicates these guys have been gone for many years. A dead form of internet video I suppose.

i never followed or looked up anyone doing let's plays outside of SA, but there is something that came up.

one channel i'm subscribed to resurrected a couple weeks ago: jade star, let's playing xcom 2's war of the chosen expansion this time, with guavamoment. jade is tolerable, so long as you avoid his twitch streams. despite being a hyperactive leftist surrounded by a dozen addled simpletons feeding nonsense into his ears, he is shockingly good at not ramming political diatribes into his let's plays. i myself enjoyed his playthroughs of shadow of rome and the xcom: enemy within let's play.

on that note: i've followed guavamoment by proxy when i first saw jade. he's impossible to dislike, having done an excellent let's play of myth 3: the wolf age. judging by the commentary going on in the war of the chosen playthrough he's gotten married and had a kid, so all the best to him.

That is what I was looking for dude cheers, two guys talking over video game footage at once now that's an LP innovation for the 2020s. This is off the cuff, but sometimes I'm certain the post commentary LPs are scripted to some degree as well.

I'm just curious because as far as I know it was rare to see even before streaming took over "on demand" video, and it's probably even rarer now. Instead you are more likely to see a review that covers most of the game (like Ross's Game Dungeon for example) or an analysis (like PatricianTV's super long Elder Scrolls videos).

Seconding to avoid Jade's twitch streams, I don't get how he can seem so reasonable while recording LPs but in the more live format just OOZE stale takes. I somehow got timed out despite having never posted anything in his chat. Meanwhile he has thrice-baked sound clips trying to mock people who didn't like the all female Ghostbusters movie. Talk about tilting at a windmill!

Guava in everything I've seen of him is extremely low key and clever, sorta set the standard for commentating or co-commentating. Thanks for the links.
