Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

Great thread to stumble upon and catch up on personalities I hadn't thought about in years. Reading through this thread, do any of these people even play games anymore? It seems the only LP video linked was to Slowbeef doing a #sponsored review of some dumb minecraft clone. It seems like this clique has entirely shifted into just being Z-list web personalities with twitter opinions....

Something i kept expecting to see, but maybe Im glad i didnt, was anything about the imo two best groups: Freelance Astronauts pipes!, Maxwell Adams, Evek, and Ferr or the "Steampunk Abortionists" CherryDoom, DocRoosevelt, Rock Tumbler, and usually some guest like drakkel or taxidermistpasta. I guess those groups ending before the lets play fad got stale leaves them to just be pleasant memories as opposed to the remainders like Slowbeef becoming everything he stood against to the point he's ballooning to DarksydePhil's body shape and size.

They do actually play games. One of the few good things that can be said about VoidBurger, Ironicus et al is that they aren't as bad as people like Sarkeesian in that they do actually play videogames.
CherryDoom
CherryDoom seems relatively normal. She still goes to cons with the other Retsupurae crowd and she streams a lot. I don't watch her videos so I don't know much about them, though.
CasuallySayingNiggerBurger mental health update:

Yeah, it's called "being a nutter."
And retweeting support for the con artist, Zoe Quinn:

Reminder that both Quinn and VoidBurger constantly voice support for violently attacking people and have histories of harassing people and using racial slurs.

If I were VB I'd be very careful about admitting to a racist past. The SocJus crowd is *very* quick to eat their own over accusations of any kind of bigotry, and they refuse to forgive past mistakes.
The only safe spot in SocJus is if you are the leader of the pack. This cyclically both is a result of and encourages the rest of the pack to constantly scrape and claw over each other as brutally as they can to prove they are the purest of the pure, and therefore should be in that coveted position of only making accusations of impurity instead of receiving them. Being called out once is enough to break the dam so it's best to be constantly on the attack so no one else can get a word in edgewise that might put you on the defense.

Why is it just the Nazis they care about and how did everyone opposed to social justice become a Nazi? What about isis recruiters? I’d say theyre far more dangerous than the supposed “nazis”.

The CIA is keeping these accounts up to monitor them but they’ve been luring people into leaving their cushy welfare euro lifestyle behind to fight in the Middle East and then return home to bomb or drive a truck through a crowd.

Nazi is just a buzz word, they think they're an easy target because a lot of them are white men so saying that you want to kill them in the thousands is completely okay and not racially questionable at all. If you say that you want to kill ISIS recruiters other SJWs might look at you funny because those guys are brown/ethnic and you might have ulterior motives.

The only reason people ever cared about Ironicus is because he was featured on Chip Cheezum videos.

I remember Ironicus having a small following from SA for the 13th Age campaign he ran/was part of, but he didn't start that until well after Chip was popular so who knows.

He also made some appearances on a fairly popular tabletop roleplaying podcast run by a friend of his (James D'Amato) called One Shot which is entangled with a lot of faces in the RPG industry from around Chicago and appears regularly at GenCon. I listened to its early episodes when it was getting off the ground a few years ago and while I haven't kept up with it since, apparently James and his co-host Kat Kuhl went apeshit pretty hard and refocused their shows to be about American politics. A cursory look at their site reveals links to fucking Trans Lifeline of all things. So, more or less the kind of people you'd expect Ironicus to associate with.

Anyway they're not relevant to this thread, I just reminded myself of them and had to share. This Gamasutra article pretty much tells you everything you need to know about James. And FWIW Ironicus was the least funny and interesting player on every episode he was on.

cherrydoom is a pretty good content creator, i really enjoyed her 50 shades of grey podcast where they rip it apart with actually decent educated commentary and analysis on how/why these books are so fucked up and dumb with a nuanced, interesting view on social justice and related concepts without ever getting preachy or annoying, as she was once a legit BDSM dominatrix in the Houston area and i imagine has seen/been through some really interesting shit through that and doesn't have this half sex-negative "omg anything i don't like is A B U S I V E BAD MALE" thing voidburger and pals do

her twitter is also seemingly free of polisperging and she has the ability to actually take a break from the internet, she's basically a better Voidburger in almost every way and should probably be earning more than she does every month on patreon (:optimistic:)

Cherrydoom is a good LPer and made some really hilarious videos. Back in 2007-2008, her and a few other of the female LPers would get together and just be catty as shit about games and other LPers and it was really great.

Unfortunately I think most of those videos are lost to the sands of time, but Cherrydoom has always been really good. If anyone can happen to find those long-lost videos, let me know, I'd watch them again. There was one where they spent about 30 minutes ragging on Prime92 and it was one of my favorite videos ever.

Slowbeef still plays games, and to be fair to him he's not at the level of the "pay me money for my political views" crowd yet.

However, reading a bunch of tweets is invariably quicker and easier than sitting through a long video if you want to get a sense of someone's more ridiculous opinions.

Today in let's player hypocrisy:

Slowbeef retweets an Islamist retweeting a patronizingly transparent healthcare propaganda video, then lectures people on economics (I think, it isn't clear what the fuck point he's trying to make besides "Trumpcare bad, Obamacare good"):

Also, CasuallySaysNiggerBurger is too far up her own ass to see the irony in this exchange:

Is Voidburger still some jobless loser that spends all day online being smug and snarky, while pretending as if someday, somebody will watch her videos and approach her for a job offer for video editing?
She apparently has a job, now. Not sure what the job actually is, though. Everything else about her is the same, besides the job.

Slowbeef and pals reach Episode 13 of Season 3 of Visual Novel Book Club -

In which they get to the part of Hustle Cats where the protagonist gets to romance their much older boss, everyone RRREEEEES about the inappropriateness of this relationship and DeviousVacuum :powerlevel: like mad again by mentioning how attractive she finds 37 year old men who own their own Dracula costume (despite it being deeply problematic for the protagonist to feel the same way).

I don't understand how a bunch of people who've consumed so much Japanese media can still be surprised when the story they're following includes a fairly inappropriate sexual relationship. I mean, do they genuinely sit there every time and think - "No, this time it'll be different and you won't actually date every other major character in this dating sim"?
