Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Huh, so it looks like I'm not going to buy anything from that company what made Subnautica again. Mainly because I don't buy from companies that fold to hateful non-consumers who drank the poison that is the regressive left.

Just remember though that these people are all hiding that they are repulsive people IRL, (a sheep never changes its wool VoidBurger; especially given you're still channeling the same hateful shit in a new package and still absolutely racist no matter how woke you pretend you are).

Of course they weren't going to buy the game after getting what they wanted.

Again, your so called "hot demographic" businessmen, only wanting to preach, never purchase. Seriously, the marketers for these nothing companies probably would have better odds picking good demographics and making sales using this webzone as a template than anything that slithers its way on twitter.

I feel bad for that sound guy. However dude should have known better. Subnautica is made by same people as Natural Selection. They are located in SF, and I believe the two founders are partners.

My guess is that the founders disliked but lived with his opinions. Sadly sound guy lit a match, and for the health of the company, they had to cut him loose. It’s not about making void burger happy, it’s about maintaining your industry relationships.

The indy scene is so easy to break into and claim to be a dev that I honestly do not see the deal about caring that much about industry relationships. To me it seems more important to care about your consumer base at that level, and VB's crowd are not consumers and will rarely if ever consume it in a way where you get profit from them.

I haven't kept up with Unknown Worlds AKA the Natural Selection guys, but after they brought in their Australian PR guy for Natural Selection 2 shortly after release, they started to get really faggy. This was years ago, so combine the fact it had already started with exposure to bay-area pozz, I don't think it really took a lot of pushing to get them to jettison someone with bad opinions.

Debating telling them I want a refund on my NS2 preorder over this, but they probably wouldn't give a shit. One of the guys has gone full "GUNS ARE EBOL", apparently.

A lot of the reason indie devs try to build relationships, no matter how unethical, is so they can get free promotion from gaming magazines, and the like. One of the more infamous GamerGate revelations during that brief period when leaks worth a damn were going on was that the IGF awards were rigged for Phil Fish's game Fez to win. Even as Phil Fish's rep imploded, with numerous public Twitter freakouts, he was still getting that media coverage he craved.

A person I knew had friends in the western gaming industry, and he pretty much told me that in gaming, you have either two choices for political viewpoints: You either have to hide them well or you have to be far left. If you're right wing, you'll likely get blacklisted from working at the big studios, and if you're a indie gamedev you'll find it harder to work with many partners. While I haven't heard of any gamedev being banned from Steam for having politically incorrect viewpoints yet (Even Hatred did come out despite an AO rating), it's common as shit to get blacklisted in other industries for having right wing political opinions, despite left leaning ones being encouraged no matter how exceptional they are.

Furthermore, if you're like Tim Soret and have a publisher and team working with you, you pretty much have to cave in or else you'll lose your job, and calling people up about their job has been an increasingly common tactic as of late.

Media flooding by my experience is worthless unless you have something in your product that makes consumers want it, no matter how much cock sucking is employed. See: Ghostbusters, Maze Runner, the Interview, and most games or movies that get shilled but are not designed to be good. Capitalism is an uncaring beast, and a garbage concept more often than not dies in the cradle.

That's some six degrees of seperation for that hearsay. It's not entirely wrong, but again I just am not impressed with the media and social pressure given how ultimately little power these twats have. An EMP wipes the net; this wee bubble all collapses and they're reduced to tears, and that thought is just why I cannot and do not find them scary or impressive. Because again, connecting with an audience is way more powerful than whatever is slung at you.

Because that tactic doesn't come off as mental at all or not backfire thus unloading some of the rather beautiful skeletons in their closets. And hell, I've seen people shrug that shit off even with their own skellies.

I still find this lot absolutely wanting.

So Voidburger did a few livestreams of Quiet Falls, a (kind of crappy) Silent Hill fan game with gay themes. The game's creator (they kept calling this dude who made a Flash game as a teen a "dev" lmao) was pretty hamfisted about some of the game's subject matter, so predictably, some virtue signaling had to happen. The whole idea of the game was that homophobia is wrong, which seemed to sail right over VB and co's heads and instead they Literally Shook over the homophobic content in the game. I guess they thought the game was trying to promote it? There was also a weird moment in the final part where VB implied that the game's awkward moments and heavy handedness with the message were caused because he wasn't an SJW, and she also seemed to be implying social justice didn't exist until Twitter, no clue on that one.

Catching up but man is voidburger a prime example of a self-loathing, jealous cunt out to bully and tear down anyone doing better than her.

She’s literally cleaning up shit in bathrooms as her primary job so it makes sense why’d she hate herself. Imagine having a college degree and your job is bathroom janitor and boring game streamer lmfao. She probably also hates how she’s the only one bringing in money and rags on Chip to find a job ASAP.

It puts a smile on my face every time I talk to a smug 20 year old who enjoys fine cultured things and knows everything about social and political subjects, and then I find out they've taken out a hundred grand in loans to put themselves through art school and I know just how glamorous their life will be in ten years.

My wife and I have conversations about our kids and I’m always adamant they will not go into the arts or social “sciences”. I’ve already started them on a path to learn programming, science, and math. I do not want my kids to wind up like chip, failburger, or slowbeef.

We don’t show them tv or the iPad and they’re definitely not playing video games like me.

They’re too young for kids shows anyway and I don’t want them glued to an iPad. Studies show young kids don’t understand what’s going on and it’s too much information for them to process. When they’re older, we’ll give them time for educational shows but it’s also great they don’t watch Dora and other shit. They won’t demand toys like other kids in my family.

We don’t demand people turn off tv or whatever, we just distract them from watching it.

You aren't exactly wrong, but as they get older if you completely isolate them from what their peers are doing, they will have a hard time making friends. There's a fine line between letting the internet & mass media raise your kids, and going full Amish (you never go full Amish). You don't want to raise Baristas with masters degrees, but you also don't want them to grow up Euphoric either.

Anyway, I think we can all agree we know we're in the correct universe because Voidburger is having to scrub shit from toilets for just above minimum wage.

Last comment as I don’t want to derail this any further because we should be laughing at voidburger cleaning up toilets with her art degree and berating chip for being jobless while she brings home pennies a day.

I agree with what you’re saying, mostly. It doesn’t matter because we’re moving to Europe in 1-2 years. Different culture especially in schools.

MICA isn't even that good an art school. From what I saw they mostly promote kids 7-18 year olds art on public transportation and hold a yearly art exhibition downtown for 3 days in the summer. They also will kick you out of on campus housing forcing you to take a loan out to buy an expensive apartment located literally 20 yards away from the main campus. Cause they're main dorms are a refurbished hospital dorm that barely houses most students.
