Let's Players originating from Something Awful - ft. VoidBurger, General Ironicus, Bob Kamoc

Quovak's let's plays are some of my favourite content on the internet. For anyone interested (scroll down, his let's plays of Yahtzee's games are under "The Chzo Mythos"):

But anyway, time for an LP drama update. This time an update actually from SA itself, courtesy of the Casual LP Thread (a thread for people to post low-quality LPs).

Someone posts an LP of a PS2-era game created by the American National Rifle Association.

The videos are innocuous (and boring) with him just talking about game mechanics and how he prepped for the recording. He isn't promoting the organisation (and when questioned says that he actually hates them); but that doesn't stop the ridiculous liberal pearl-clutching from the LP mod nine-gear scarecrow:

It's really gross and groady! And icky! Like, OMG, you can't just LP a game made by NRA fascists in CURRENT YEAR - eww! Yikes!

Apparently this NRA game where you shoot plates and plastic balls is worse than other shooting games where you kill actual people, because those games aren't funded by the NRA.

CJacobs, the goon who started the thread, throws the LPer a bone by saying that it would be OK to LP the game if they used it to badmouth the NRA (but it's in bad taste to play the game just because it's a curio, everything must be used to push liberal politics).

The LPer points out that it's dumb to hate a game that promotes gun safety and has you shooting inanimate objects but not hating games where you shoot people. He also panders to the shrieking libs by saying that the NRA is awful:

Of course, this only makes the exceptional individuals gibber even more.

The LPer is accused of supporting an organisation that is apparently responsible for mass shootings, he's then accused of only making the videos for the sweet Patreon and Youtube dollars (his videos have less than a hundred views).

Some other mongoloid says that him playing this shitty PS2 games is an affront to people "affected" (presumably negatively) by firearms.

nine-gear scarecrow, the mod that started the drama, then probates the LPer and one of the people bickering with him:

When you acquiesce to ideologues to attempt to keep the peace, they will take you for every inch they can get an then some. The second supernice went "of course the NRA is bad, I just thought this was cool", he gave people carte blanche to step all over him.

This one actually pisses me off, this idiot banned a dude for LPing a game he didn't agree with? Jesus Christ, the absolute fucking state of SA.

"While I think you are a bad person, I won't ban you for your gross and groady evil nazi LP"
*probates him for the LP*

They accuse him of only posting an LP to make money? What do they think people like Chip and Voidburger do with their patreons?

This is a phenomenon I'm going to start calling the Kanye principle. A whole bunch of privileged babies make a ridiculous statement - say, that life is no better for American blacks than it was before slavery - and they're treated as legitimate. But it's awful for Kanye to say because we previously decided he's bad.

Well apparently making money off an LP is good, unless I can put a phantom maga hat on your head, then it's bad when you do it and will be added to your list of nefarious charges. But it goes back to being innocuous when me and mine do it.

I'm just gonna point out that the reason he got probated was because he was arguing with the other dude not just posting the LP hence why the other dude got probated as well.
Going by the probation message and the fact that it was the mod who probated him that started the drama I don't think that's accurate.

I think the mod's reasoning was something like "I want to probate this asshole for not backing down over this evil NRA game, but if I don't also probate one of the other guys arguing with him then people will resume bickering with him when his probation ends and that'll shit up the rest of the thread."

Translation: You can't mock the 'cool kids' since most of these clowns haven't left the teen years mentally is my guess.

Gamesaresupernice isn't the guy I watch that often, but I do have to give the guy credit; he finds a lot of games you never heard of and tries to show them off in a way I've not seen in most LPers since ResearchIndicates, if not as polished or with as good of a speaking voice. That these tards are reduced to REEEing at old games that you know the NRA doesn't collect money on anymore due to its age says a lot about how garbage SA has gotten. I'm actually impressed at how much worse the LP subforum's gotten since I remember hearing ex-goons mention how no one wanted to deal with this cancerous smug elitist shit.

I think I've mentioned this, but slowbeef was LP mod for about 2 months longer than he wanted to be, solely because they couldn't find anyone to replace him (the only people who wanted the job were people you didn't want doing the job, and since slowbeef had a say in who his replacement was, he didn't want to volunteer someone who'd suck). I think they finally agreed to have Axemaniac watch over the place until they found a replacement mod, which was like another 2 months later when they got Geop iirc (I honestly wasn't really on the LP forum much at this point, so I might be remembering this wrong).

Apparently my name got floated around in the mod forum as a replacement, but slowbeef knew I didn't want the job, and apparently a bunch of mods I'd pissed off over the years also vetoed it, heh. I would have given it to baldurk, personally, but I don't think he wanted it either.

It's a catch-22. No one qualified for that job would have even the most remote interest in taking it. At least we got some good retsutalk bits out of it. Looking back I think beetus had had enough of the LP subforum by that point too, as he mocked it a lot on the podcast.

"qualified" for the job nigga please

it would be much easier to find a replacement if the forum didn't have more rules than the charter of an actual city.

I'll add to that.
Geop did absolutely fuck all as a mod, at which point they modded Chip who also did fuck all. They'd probably glance at the forums once a month and only got the jobs for being veteran posters there.
The current mod outside ninegearcrow is Fedule, a British asshat who we've covered here in the past, but is an even worse mod. When Lowtax went on his purging spree and got rid of VB and her ilk he went after and probated anyone who said anything positive about that. And wouldn't you know it, he just so happened to be working on that VR shovelware game VB was involved in and sucks up to her all the time offsite.
Also he fucking saturated threads with links to CON and directed people there in case their feefees were hurt or the evil kiwis came after them, and this was well after CON was exposed and not even doing anything anymore.

VB is perma/IP banned and Chip intentionally doesn't post on SA anymore and goes on the LPZone instead. So if you brought that up they'd probably mob you for "stalking" or something.

This is incredibly true though. They spent what, 6, 8 years making fun of the concept and yet nowadays I see slowbeef having a complete meltdown over how many Twitch subs he has and how we wants more (he went from 300 to 1400 via some circlejerking). It's amazingly cringey watching him beg for more.

Iirc Geop was known to banned/mod faster than chip so it was basically dumb to have him mod anyway. Also I recently saw a video on Chips channel, an archive about the recent extralife stream where they played Hooters. I'd avoid watching that unless you like hearing VB screech about how women are degraded in those food places (Even though they chose too but I guess the mop jockey knows a lot about making good decisions.)
