Slowbeef is just an old man who is ashamed of who he used to be, and maaaaaybe a bit jealous of people like pewdiepie who took off and achieved great success in spite of, rather than because of, the gilded cage that slowbeef moderated.

His jealously is the funniest thing to me. Because on Something Awful he had the most control over who was one of the cool kids. And this rando swede(?) comes out of nowhere and is making triple digits off the thing he supposedly pioneered (he didn't). It was weird even at the time, because while a goon would get dogpiled if they were butthurt about criticim on their content, the forum as a whole obviously did take LP super, duper seriously.

I think he's bitter because he was too insecure to take it seriously. Pewdiepie did and he's a multimillionaire now, and slowbeef is still a nobody. Actually he's more of a nobody now than he ever was plus he's also old AF now.

This is a surprisingly common story. Lots of people who have made cool shit were SA posters. 0 of them went anywhere near SA once they started seeing success. If they had, they probably would've ended up exactly like Slowbeef, Void, et al.

As an aside: slowbeef always kind of waffled on making LP into a real business. Proteus used to give slowbeef a lot of shit for even entertaining the idea of being serious about playing video games for the internet. Slowbeef's internet career is a case study in why you shouldn't crowd source your life goals.

After a brief study of the most popular retsuprea videos, I have determined Slowbeef always had autism and Diabeetus was the talented dude.

Slowbeef never had the charisma to make it in youtube stardom. No matter what SA did/didnt do, the dude legit isnt funny.

But, that counter balance with Diabeetus is a pretty good thing. Like, I watched that mystery of druid series and them and that one woman made the whole series pretty funny. It was a pretty rare/weird balance that worked.

But I saw his solo videos and that creepypasta shit and it was terrible. Like, dramatically awful.

I’m going to defend the LP Forum for a second because I was part of that circlejerk about quality and I don’t regret it. If you’re going to make things other people are going to watch, at least try to make it entertaining in some way. Put at least a little effort into it. Don’t just sit there and describe what’s happening on your 240p stream. That’s my take on it, if that’s “taking it seriously” then I guess I was part of the problem, but I won’t apologize for that part, because I think overall it was good for the content being created at the time.

Yeah this part has some truth to it. For my part, I never really understood PDP or his appeal (at first, he’s gotten a lot better), but I never really considered him RP material or shit on him because I realized he was just playing a role for his audience, and his audience liked it. Personally, I was more shocked at how popular he was than angry or bitter or anything.

The PDP popularity explosion makes a lot more sense in hindsight having seen the rise of the children's toy unboxing channels, imo. Start with advertiser friendly content that targets children and the algorithm will reward you handsomely, there's just been more fine tuning over the years.

Those videos were hilarious, some of the best stuff they ever produced, even the later ones where they riff on Billy's weird LPs with Lime Popsicle. Chip finished his MGSV playthrough.

It's cute but there's what's odd to me is that they said they wish they could edit their MGS3 playthrough because it had a large amount of "ableist" jokes. I remember watching said playthrough a while back and for the life of me I simply cannot remember any of those jokes, nor what context would spur them. All I can recall is that they had a running theme of making Snake act like a caveman, which I doubt would offend any cavemen who decided to break out of some permafrost to watch a Youtube let's play. The only other context I can think of is when Snake's eye gets shot, maybe they may have made a joke or two, but I don't remember anything of that sort.

The best explanation I can imagine is that perhaps Voidburger complained at Chip to take down that entire playthrough because she interpreted caveman Snake as being mentally disabled, and that was Chip's compromise. Otherwise there's something I'm missing.

Beyond that, Ironicus made a comment saying that Nazi ideology was recycled into what political republicans believe today. I don't recall which episode it was on, I believe one of the videos where they just listen to MGSV's plot tapes, but what's concerning is that I'm not entirely sure if that was a joke. Ignoring that Ironicus himself said it in a complete deadpan, Chip didn't laugh and agreed in an equal deadpan, so either he didn't think it was funny and was trying his best not to rock the boat with Ironicus, or he felt the same. I don't doubt the former, as Chip comes off as somebody who's been thrown into a group of people whose viewpoints heavily contrast with his yet he tries his absolute best just to get along without being outed.
