You'd think with over a decade of LPs bringing up that he has a family, at some point there'd be a slip. There's some stuff still vague here, like how do you "kick his ass" over his fake online life, exactly? And how can anyone look into his military career if there's no name to go with it?

For what it’s worth, I’m likely to believe this about TDI. I have no proof, but he used to message me on AIM every once in a while back in the day, and while he never said anything to contradict himself (although also, to be fair, I wasn’t really looking for that because idgaf), he seemed...needy...in a way that didn’t exactly mesh well with his public persona.

I know it's kinda weird and random to make an account to reply to a three year old post, but I'm here because from time to time I'll fall into a Google rabbit hole about "ID" and it led me here.

I won't say how, but I am related to him and I've been trying to let people know for fucking YEARS this dude is a fraud and liar. He was never in the military, he's 35 and been unemployed almost his entire life and leeches off his elderly dad. He has never been married and has no kids. His conversations with his "wife" on Twitter are him talking to himself. I could go on but in short he's fucking insane.

Ive tried to tell people this in the past but that motherfuckers got like a cult of weirdies that defend him and he just blocks me when I try and call him out. After he was mentioned I started watching his no damage runs and I am enjoying them. He does explain game mechanics well and why he is doing what he is doing during the runs. If Diabetus ever did start making videos with Slowbeef again he's going to have to commit to being a leftist and repeat their opinions or the spergs will see his avoidance of politics and attack him. I'd bet quite a bit of money on diabetus leaning to the center politically. He probably has to hide his politics among both his family and his online friends, from different directions, given that he's from a small town in 'bama. There were a dozen times slowbeef tried to pull diabetus into some political drama topic, and diabetus pretty much always dodged with a joke. It was much more frequent early on, I think it was episode 2 where slowbeef was really pushing to just shit talk the south.

Him bringing back Retsupurae with no Diabetus and annoying retards like Damehasclass and that Jim Downey guy is far worse than there just never being another Retsupurae video ever again.

Tbh, when he and Diabetus made a retsupurae of the Japanese version of Darkseed 2 a while back I thought that that would be their last Retsupurae video, and it would have been a fitting and pleasant ending for Retsupurae imo; the series was great and they had their usual fantastic chemistry, plus it had lots of callbacks to the old Darkseed retsupuraes.
Really awkward that Slowbeef decided that trying to retsupurae some garbage cult PSX horror game despite it not fitting the Retsupurae format was a good idea. Then Diabetus bailing on two separate retsupuraes of it (the first game and its sequel) was pretty awful too.

I think it is over. Things were a lot more care free and fun back in the golden days of the internet. Now most of the web is a censored corporate hellhole. Does something like "Retsupurae" even have a place in this era? Most things that we enjoyed from the 2000's have been destroyed or warped beyond all recognition. Now all we have left is cynicalism. Everyone can see the writing on the wall and we are just sitting back and watching it all crumble.

The last wrongpurae I watched was Ambition: Gaiden, which not coincidentally was right before they spent like a year and a half doing almost nothing but Kickstarter/IGG videos. In general, Slowbeef played the straight man with Diabeetus being the jokester. You can't have only a straight man, because then you just get flat commentary.

Anyway, the absolute closest you can get to Retsupurae is Mister Metokur's content, which I believe Jim himself had said that Retsupurae was a slight inspiration. Thing is, he doesn't really commentate over trainwrecks unless he's in the right mood for it. Generally he just looks at social issues, too. He just occasionally watches trash videos or commentaries and laughs over them.

But Retsupurae itself was lightning in a bottle, where let's plays weren't profitable or popular enough to warrant much serious investment, yet technology wasn't accessible enough so that any knucklehead could record footage with commentary. With that combined, you had let's plays where the creators either didn't care, had nobody to use as a standard for quality, or weren't proficient enough either technically or charismatically to make a good video out of the ordeal. I'm sure there's still bad let's plays being created today, but nothing like what was being churned out in the early 2000's. That's all on top of the social climate disallowing the mean-spirited sort of commentary Retsupuraes encourage.

That being said, I don't doubt something akin to Retsupuraes will rise from the ashes in due time. It won't be called "Retsupurae," and the creators may not even be aware of it to begin with, but ideas which worked before will inevitably be unknowingly replicated. We're somewhat close with the "This Is How You Don't Play" series that multiple people make, if only to mock DSP (and occasionally other big-name Youtubers).

He's the rare lets player I used to watch sincerely. Loved his Fatal Frame vids. I remember Slowbeef and crew always giving him shit for being "boring".

I think when Diabeetus started solo streaming a lot more around 2013/2014, that's when I slowly lost interest in retsuprae. A few years ago a more recent video was recommended to me. The sheer fact slowbeef had an intro made speaks volumes of how alien rp has become.

Now I feel a desire to watch Darkseed 2 again. Also wanna say I appreciate their Space Adventure Cobra rp because it got me into the series unironically.

I had no idea Carcinogen was such a faggot. I actually don't mind watching his RE content and have learned a thing or two from them even, but he always came across as a bit sensitive and kind of a total fucking nerd who's full of himself. You know, your average goon. Either way, he keeps his politics out of the stuff I've seen which is more than I can say for most of the brokebrains LPers from SA.

I wonder if at some point Slowbeef managed to realize that Betus simply doesn't want to be in videos with him anymore. IIRC he kept smugly chuckling and telling his Twitter followers (and probably himself) that everything was fine and that they were just waiting for their schedules to match, well over a year after their final bunch of videos together.
I feel like most normal people would take a hint after hearing "yeah, sorry, my schedule is too full to sit down and riff on a game for 2 hours" for a bunch of months in a row, but I can also see Beef being so dense Betus had to spell out that he was done with RP.
