Lies of P - First proper bloodborne like - Which is about *checks notes* steampunk Pinochio kicking ass made by Koreans

lol, it seems that those who bought the game on retail stores such as GMG are having their licences revoked or something. :lit:

During the forum purge, I posted about how shameless this game is in plagiarizing EVERY single minuscule detail from SoulsBorde.

Imagine the most inconsequential detail from a Souls game, it was copied by Lies of P, no exception. It almost feels like a parody game.

I even talked in my post that didn't survive the rollback about Crystal Lizards. Like, who the fuck gives a shit about Crystal Lizards, that's the last thing that comes to your mind when you think about Dark Souls, But Lies of the P copied it anyway, they just changed it to a fucking butterfly.

And now I'm thinking that even the healing animation is the same as Bloodborne. Like, I'm not joking, I don't thing this game has anything original at all.
Every parallel system was done better in BB or Sekiro. A parody game is an apt qualifier.

Some thoughts after getting through presumably about half the game since it doesn't seem like anyone else is playing:
  • The level design steps up after what was in the demo but not by a whole lot. The third (puppet foundry) level was ok but the next two weren't that interesting.
  • I'm flip flopping on the weapon system again. Rather then breaking up the blade and the handle, it would have been better to simply pull an Elden Ring to add to the multitude of other aped systems and make it so you can change the fable moves.
  • Blocking is extremely powerful and dodging isn't all that useful if it's a question of maybe getting a successful dodge in or blocking a hit. To this end, the stat that determines how much chip damage gets through a block is super important.
  • They should have also aped BB's spicy quick dash instead of this gym class tumble. If dodging was better, it might be an actual alternative to blocking.
  • Parrying perfect blocking should have been a separate action bound to R2. The Legion arm could have been bound to up on the d pad or something and the double quick item belts should have been condensed into one. Rather than a block, it should just have been an interrupting jab a la BB but minus the gun. It's like they couldn't even ape the good parts.
  • The P-organ (lol I can't believe they called it that) upgrades are too few and far between. I've been very thorough and I'm still only in the second tier although the third is unlocked now. Being the system that has the most impact on the fun factor of the game, you'd think it'd have been leaned into more heavily. The way it's organized is kind of dumb too.
The game isn't horrible but it isn't great. Better than Code Vein but much worse then Nioh.

I haven't played Code Vein but I don't think there's really much to compare with Souls and Nioh. Nioh is basically just a Ninja Gaiden game using Souls as framework to deliver NG combat. It's like comparing Doom and Arma. Both first person shooters, but entirely different games.

True but I didn't really want to say it's the best souls clone out there atm when the bar is set so low. Hopefully the Lords of the Fallen reboot changes that.

I can work with this, I wasn't wowed by Code Vein but I did manage to finish it (though the final boss made me summon for human help which wounded my pride, but I at least beat the obligatory Ornsetin and Smough equivalent solo and without AI partner). Nioh I liked the combat, but HATED the diablo loot and that single handedly has made me pass on Nioh 2 and Wu Long, so P may be something to sink my teeth in in a few months when I'm tired of playing JRPGs and the Elden Ring DLC is still not out yet.

As for Lords of the Fallen, who knows, a lot of these games "look" fine but then play weird. P I already noticed in the demo that it felt jank and even though it supposedly apes the hell out of Bloodborne, it plays a lot more like a Dark Souls 2 with very low ADP with a bit of Sekiro in there. So I don't trust that game till I get some word of mouth as well.

Legit kind of surprised it's not a sexy loli female Pinocchio (I think)
Well, a year ago we had Steelrising with a clockwork doll waifu. Similar deal, just grimdark French Revolution as you fight an army of clockwork robots powered by the enslaved souls of slaughtered revolutionaries.

And no, the game isn't nearly as fun as that description makes it sound.

Every single enemy having instant counter attacks they can let off is one thing, but the zero stagger protection you have this is just making the game a chore. Getting a perfect guard off means fuck all if the enemy can immediately follow up while you're locked into your own attack animation.

I'm up to the dual wielding shield robot and I'm finding this too irritating to continue with. Everything just feels so spongey and the mechanics so unresponsive.

I'm enjoying it but seriously why the fuck is there no poise or stagger? Way to copy literally every mechanic from Dark Souls except the most important one.

Code Vein did that too but at least in Code Vein the dodge was a lot more responsive and you had a forward/backwards roll which you don't have here.

Personal favourite example is the Survivor boss in the factory. He has unlimited stamina and will continuously chain attacks, but hitting him with a greatsword won't stagger the fucker, and even if you break his weapon with perfect guards nothing but his damage output changes.

Oh, and if you do make him "groggy" the fact you get no hyper armour from charged attacks means that you'll just take another hit to the face and come away with nothing anyway.

I want to like this game but fuck me. Beating him felt like I cheesed his AI, rather than learning to git gud.

It's unbelievably frustrating that these Koreans can ape everything from Fromsoft except the fucking movement. This game would benefit massively from being a fast gay puppet but we're not so lucky.

I've just been returning to my roots and backstabbing all the humanoids. There's a boss a few areas ahead that involves several human enemies and the only way I beat it was by baiting out the backstabs.

To be fair, nearly every game attempting to ape From's gameplay has failed at that. Nioh succeeded imo but it's also its own thing.
Darksiders 3 does a passable job of it..or at least did once they added I-frames to your counter attacks so that if you got a perfect dodge you could actually..counter without getting blown the fuck up.

Nope, fuck this game. +3 greatsword and I'm not even scratching enemies with a combo, but they knock me down and continue to attack because there's zero fucking mercy invincibility even when you're sprawled all over the floor. If an enemy is going to repeatedly smack me with a flaming hammer while I'm laying prone, at least have the fucking decency to cut out the middleman and just turn it into a grab attack.

I'm open to the idea I'm missing something, but this is a miserable experience. Low damage attacks, spongey enemies that can two-shot me, and a parry mechanic that requires me to be frame perfect multiple times in a row but only rewards me with an attack that does normal weapon damage. How the hell is this game expecting you to play it?

Saw a video today from Ziostorm complaining on how a lot of mobility stuff should be in the base game but is locked under the p heart system or whatever the fuck it's called. Turns out one of the skills that you can unlock is roll after getting splatted instead of waiting for twinkochio to get up.

Block. The greatsword is one of the best blocking weapons at that point in the game. If you killed the giant walker miniboss, there's this rocket glaive thingy that I really like that's basically a dexterity version of the greatsword handle. You can farm the two puppets in the room right next to the first stargazer in that level for moonstone if you want to try another weapon.

From the sound of it, you're getting filtered by the puppet foundry boss, king firecock or whatever. Don't even try going for perfect blocks against that guy, they'll happen naturally. You should only have to dodge the red attacks. Everything else you can just walk away from. This isn't me defending the retarded mechanics, I'm just telling you what worked for me.

Yep and that skill is in fucking tier 2 which requires at least six quartz to unlock.

That's the thing though, I am blocking - but even with 60 reduction I'm taking way too much chip damage, and can't recover what I lose. I play defensively and I can't tank enough to make up for the lackluster damage, and if I play offensively the enemy remains tanks and now I get gibbed when I'm locked into an attack animation.

I think a lot of this is pissing me off because there's no real feedback with staggering. In Sekiro I had a clear visual cue of the damage I was doing to an enemy's poise, so could see what effect my various tactics were having. Here it feels completely random if the enemy will stagger, and I have no clue what's effective. Is parrying doing anything? My charged attacks? Fuck you, apparently, because that's asking too much.

I dunno. I'm gonna take a breather and maybe start again tomorrow with a different weapon (the lack of upgrade materials has really punished experimentation...) and stats. I'm at 15 Vit/End/Weight, with 15 in Dex and Str.

I just came from platinuming Wu Long so I'm basically invincible thanks to my wicked parry skills.

Does it play less like Sekiro outside the demo? I keep seeing the Bloodborne comparison but other than the Victorian aesthetic it played much more like Sekiro than a Souls game or Bloodborne. The dodge was shit and it seemed pretty obvious it wanted me to play the block/parry game. Sekiro was a pile of shit so I expect this to be the same.

Lords of the Fallen was... alright. Like if you took Gears of War devs and told them to make a Souls game. I seem to remember the devs pulling a "there's no women because women can't use big sword" when it first came out which was funny. I'm aware they're remaking it but I'd be really surprised if they change much.

I'd recommend The Surge games over Lords of the Fallen though. Sci-fi setting and the ability to target, cut off, and collect enemy parts was a fun mechanic.
