86box is made by trannies who fell for the low level emulation meme where even a 3MHz CPU from the 80s requires a 3GHz PC.
Which makes sense if you want to make an emulator that's fit for really specific old software that can only run on actual old hardware but instead you can just emulate it, but definitely not for playing games. Not only that, if your software is designed for something like Windows XP you're SOL both on PCem and on 86Box and you need an old machine that's at least Pentium 4 anyway.

Sometimes I think about getting rid of the old hardware I keep around, but emulation seems to be in this constant state of “it almost works” limbo, and I don’t have nearly a good enough PC to run PCem anyway. Kinda crazy that old hardware is still the best way to use old software in most cases.

That's really interesting. It's still weird to think a lot of our childhoods were powered by a company that primarily makes servers and helped get us to the moon.
Funny you should say that, the Curiosity and Perseverance rovers, among other spacecraft/satellites including the James Webb Space Telescope, has the PowerPC RAD750 on board, a radiation hardened version of the chip found in earlier iMac G3s. The Broadway (Wii chip) and Espresso (Wii U chip) are slightly modified PowerPC 750CL chips (which in itself is essentially a later model of the original 750, derived from the 750CXe which can be found in the GameCubes). So not only did these chips power childhoods, they also power space.

And the reason they use such outdated architectures is because they are much less prone to getting fried or malfunctioning due to space radiation, while doing all the shit they need to do. Sure, you could make a satellite that runs on a Threadripper, but it would quickly fail because of the space radiation, and it would be way too overkill for what it needs to do.

Correct, they are able to function perfectly in a very wide variety of temperatures (I think in the case of the RAD750 its -50 and like 80c but im not sure), can withstand 200k to 1m rads and use a very low amount of power (forgot the figure, will edit post)

The fat Transporter wannabe finally gets an upgrade, but he already has all the newest coomer gear. A real good example of a tech consoomer, this is the 4th or 5th person who seems to live in a duplex, probably renting, due to BC's faggy housing, or he's grifting extra hard for the mortgage. Spend some money on some free weights or a Bowflex.

I once bought something off craigslist from a guy who turned out to be one of the POWER chip guys at a decaying and downsizing IBM plant nearby. I wound up sitting on his porch for about an hour while he told me tales of the ups and downs of PowerPC, it was fascinating. Reason he was selling his stuff was so that he could return to his mother country; a rich family man ready for retirement after coming to America in the 90's. Lucky guy.

Edit: quote didn't work but this was response to WelperHelper99 https://kiwifarms.net/threads/linus-media-group-thread.118806/post-14761033

I don't think anyone has spent their upgrade on exercise equipment yet, so that would be a based move.

Jakes room is pretty small for all the shit he has, plus theres dog piss on the carpet that didnt appear to get cleaned for a bit, lol

He's also using one monitor for a racing sim that is otherwise over $1k which is yikes, he should have spent some of the $ on VR or a couple more monitors. Also his fov is set like shit... he is apparently known to research all of his buys a bunch but is he going to be better at the game, probably not

In general he makes me not feel so bad about my kinda shit cable management

Anthony's upgrade was justified by him saying he was going to use it to exercise and get into shape (vr)

I know what you are saying but that's the closet given this is sponsored freebies they get from the likes of intel
Yet he hasn't lost a single kilogram it seems. Not that dancing around in a VR headset would do much in that regard. That was more of an excuse for just getting a VR headset to play VR games.

There's no amount or intensity of cardio that can offset the kind of diet that makes a man that sized in the first place. Not unless you played for 8-12 hours a day, which at that point is cheating - any real effect would come from him no longer being able to see the snacks on his desk to idly eat.

You could even still give it weeb/nerd/tech energy - Set up a treadmill or stationary bike in front of a mini streaming box computer with a nice display, and watch movies or anime or whatever on it. I do it all the time dragging my bike in front of my computer, gives me an excuse to exercise whenever I want to watch something subbed.

Anthony sent some tweets about Beat Saber, lost a tiny (relative to his size) amount of weight over a short period of time then got immediately demoralized when he inevitably put it back on just as fast. The guy needs a diet and exercise is downright dangerous for him at his size. Nobody lost weight while eating pizza. (except Null, but he smartly rations the pizzas)

The extremely brief weightloss arc was documented here: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/linus-media-group-thread.118806/post-12657262

The only shape I see in Anthony's future is obscenely rotund.

Mm. Apple actually sold PowerMac G5s to Microsoft, which were adapted into early dev kits for the XBox 360. Microsoft used the original PowerMac G5 and the updated 2004 model.

You can see two of them hiding in the box here in 2005, they ran a variant of Windows NT.

As for the reason why? Well, the Xenon processor Microsoft wanted to use hadn't actually been made yet, so... they needed a computer that used something similar, and the G4 didn't have the grunt.

Eventually, the dev kits were retired and sold, wiped for $300 to Microsoft employees. I think Jobs did a throwaway line at WWDC 2005 along the lines of "Microsoft's using our PowerMac G5s as development kits for the XBox 360. Our view is, if they're happy to buy 'em, we're happy to sell 'em!"
