they have not paid the head of the Labs yet (the Gary guy). It's because of some faggy canadian immigration and he doesn't have their version of a social security number yet, but that's 6 months of work.
Ah so Linus is Karl Marx in the streets, capitalist slave owner in the sheets then.
It stands to reason he would fuck up something as simple as immigration paperwork. There is clearly more to this, than he is saying. 6 months paid in nothing but shout outs. In Vancouver of all places. No way, some money is under the table there.

Wait, what?

I've mentioned this before but I did work in Canada briefly and what they're talking about is a Social Insurance Number. Here's the process I went through:
  • Walk into a Service Canada (no appointment necessary)
  • Tell them you're a temporary immigrant and want a SIN
  • Present your proof (offer letter, immigration docs, port of entry paperwork, passport, etc.)
  • Receive piece of paper with SIN
I got it on my 2nd day in Canada and it took less than an hour since Service Canada was basically empty midweek.

There must be way more to this story or Canada has completely gone to shit since I left.

Linus' admissions may leave him open to getting fined if he's ever investigated for this too https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-ag...-up-new-employee/social-insurance-number.html

Isn't Yvonne the HR person? She doesn't know how to do actual immigration paperwork, just under the table Chinese ones.

The only situation I know of in which this isn't the case is immigration via marriage - if your marrying a canadian and immigrating to be with them, its a massive shitshow where they won't give you rights to do anything, and your spouse is basically required to support you through the process. It can take literal years.

Source: American bro of mine married a canadian girl and moved, spent three years being told he can barely leave the country, can't work, and to just patiently wait for his documents. Dude wasn't lazy, genuinely wanted to work, but was up shits creek. This was only a few years ago, so I doubt it was reformed recently.

There must be more to the story. Unless someone has "fuck you" money, no seasoned veteran of the industry will work for free.

In fact, someone make an LTT shirt that says, "YOU'LL GET PAID, TRUST ME BRO."

This really sounds like he cannot honestly run a company.

When the coof started, all of that shit just kind of froze for a couple of months, leading to a huge backup. I actually had an employee miss 2 months of work because his work visa expired, and he didn't even wait until the last minute to file.

Question, if I write a autistic and detailed post on Canada fraud reporting tool, is there a chance of them taking it seriously or they will do like most countries that will ignore it?
Depends how bored the officials are. The whole shtick of it is that the reports go into a black hole to avoid anyone backtracking the whistleblower. On the flip side, it means nobody can accuse them of knowingly ignoring it, since nobody knows what they're doing.

I'm not sure I'd bother though, if dude is going through the marriage side of the problem where you're deadlocked, might just end up with the poor fuck deported for violating the terms of his residency. Linus probably gets slapped too, but collateral damage is no fun.

I asked about the machine shop they set up a few years ago. They bought hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of machine tools.

Never saw much content created about it or using things fabricated in it.

Now they have a laboratory.

It's tax racket.

By spending money on something like 'Research & Development,' there are all sorts of assistance available, including grants and tax perks. So now they have a laboratory paying the wages of people who develop techniques of testing and benchmarking. Don't be surprise if they also carry out more and more of the actual benchmarking too, which will then fall under R & D.

The only reason I doubt this is that I don't think he's that smart.

Perhaps that's the intent but I don't think it's paying off.

ngl I have no words with how open they are to admitting this...

cuz even if the worker does not have a social security number he/she still has to get paid according to what is stated in the offer letter,
and for fucking 6 months how the fuck does he not have a social security number?! you normally get it during the onboarding process before you join
I can understand if it's like a youtube media company with no HR, but he already expanded to making merch and creating a lab, fucking what makes him hesitant to getting an HR when he actually needs it the most?
I dont know how it works in canada.

But when I was doing some work, and wanted to cover my ass, I hired a payroll company to outsource. It might have been over kill, but I wanted to cover my ass.

Good thing I did because one worker who basically made killing for about 6 months with the under the table arrangement (before doing the payroll company) tried to go claim unemployment with those six months.

What I m getting at arent there companies were linus could just hire out peace meal bureaucratic shit

How would you know?

Presumably LTT makes decent cash from Youtube ads, merch and sponsors. What I described brings in grants and moves expenditure under R&D where it saves tax.
I don't, but he doesn't seem to be doing as well as he'd like and the up front costs are presumably quite expensive.

Right. Probably because you can't tell people, especially when you hire them specifically for a ruse, that it's an accounting gimmick. So your new lab manager will try to hire the brightest and best, and they collectively will want $200,000 3D printers and other toys.

That doesn't mean it has or will fail to save him money.

Linus updates everyone on the status of the Labs and Logistics. Also makes a joke in the opening about how LTT is hemorrhaging money.
Oh boy, I hope that someone from LTT reads this because there's a few big mistakes that he's doing that will fuck him in the future a lot.

A lot of their tools looks to be built from a single person only, this is one of the worst mistakes that he can do. If in two years the guy from the benchmark software or the keyboard arm leaves the company, you will have an extremely over-engineered piece of software that it would take a good few months to a new person to understand it, even with good documentation.

Also, one reason that a lot of companies don't over engineer their testing tool is because a lot of actuators are easier, cheaper, future proof and more reliable than a big arm with a laser scanner and actuator.

Second, Linus learnt nothing from his house and will use Wi-Fi 6 on the entire office which will have heavy equipment that uses a lot of power that don't need to comply to the RF requirements that a home appliance does.

I don't know what he has there but industrial laser cutter for example, emmits so much RF that a microwave is nothing near it
