Linus needs to take another look at how non-competes work because if anyone followed his statement they could end up in smelly stuff, depending on jurisdiction, In some jurisdictions, I believe California is one - as an example, they are not enforceable at all whereas in others to be enforceable they must be very narrow - like name specific companies narrow. In the latter, for example, for LTT you would likely have to specifically name activities that are competing such as making tech review videos or working for Gamers Nexus. For Twitch Streaming to be classed as competing, then LTT would need to have making gaming content as a business line. Using some vague justification like "We make them famous" or "we might make gaming content at some nebulous future point" isn't going to cut it.

In the jurisdiction where I worked once my contract had a non-compete. Before signing paid out of pocket for a lawyer to give it a read and they advised the non-compete clause, as written, was not enforceable so I ignored it and took the job. More fool the company for not properly wording the contract.
