But should you compare Qualcomm to AMD or to Apple? Apple nailed the computers release, after also having its own chips for years on the iPhones.
I think it's fine to compare Qualcomm to Apple because they are both trying to popularize ARM64 chips for laptops. I agree that I don't really see any need to compare to AMD outside of the argument I posted previously, just not all too relevant.

Hell, Apple's compared the M series chips to Intel as recently as the M3 MacBook Air.

Compared to a PC laptop with an Intel Core i7 processor, MacBook Air with M3 delivers up to 2x faster performance ,up to 50 per cent faster web browsing and up to 40 per cent longer battery life.

'Testing conducted by Apple in January 2024 using preproduction 15-inch MacBook Air systems with Apple M3, 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU, and preproduction 13-inch MacBook Air systems with Apple M3, 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU, all configured with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD, as well as production Intel Core i7–based PC systems with Intel Iris Xe Graphics, 16GB of RAM, 512GB SSD and the latest version of Windows 11 available at the time of testing. Best-selling 15-inch Intel Core i7 PC laptop is based on publicly available sales data over the prior 12 months. Adobe Photoshop 2024 25.4.0 tested using the following filters and functions: select sky, oil paint, adaptive wide angle, picture frame and tree. Open-source project built on macOS with Xcode 15.2 with Apple Clang 15.0.0; open-source project built on Windows with Clang 16.0.5. Adobe Premiere Pro 2024 24.1 tested with Scene Edit Detection using a three-minute and 27-second project with H.264 media at 3840x2160 resolution and 30 frames per second. Performance tests are conducted using specific computer systems and reflect the approximate performance of MacBook Air.'

Not to fight against you but rather comment on the marketing of Apple being done here - this is basically comparing apples to oranges. ARM processors are made specifically to work with reduced instruction sets in order to reduce power draw, but this obviously comes with the lack of compatibility with anything only compiled for x86 processors. Are more and more developers embracing ARM as a legitimate architecture for laptops as opposed to solely being for SBCs, SoCs, phones, etc.? Yes, and I find that to be amazing, as it's ridiculous that there is a near monopoly in the x86 CPU space because you need to license the instruction set, which itself is a huge barrier to entry. But still, x86 laptops and ARM laptops are two entirely separate worlds.

There is still a lot you can't do on ARM still, and if you're thinking about x86 emulation, then you can say goodbye to hours of battery life. I honestly wonder if they had performed the same tasks but instead of doing native operations, did x86 emulation instead, and see which device beats the other out. I don't know which would win, but I think the results would be pretty close nonetheless.

ARM has its use cases. x86 has its use cases. They do not need to be compared. It's like comparing a smart car to a semi-trailer truck.

Mm. I'd... agree, but also disagree.

I'd say that the common bloke would just want something that's able to do what he wants, without any trouble, give decent battery life, and not set fire to any important parts of his body.

For a price point comparison, I'd say they're worth comparing. From a build quality comparison, they're worth comparing.

But for things like specialised software... I'm not so sure.

Personally, I'd like to see Windows on ARM do well. I think extra competition would be good.

I have 0% trust Apple and Qualcomm's ARM benchmarks vs Intel are accurate. Linus also has a history of recommending people buy shit he would never daily drive.
Remember when he recommended the Intel ARC cards not on their performance but because buying it "would send a message?" I do. I also remember that he never used an AMD card in his personal machine despite shilling them for over a decade.

I can post links tonight to prove my points but in the modern world. There's no real difference between RISC/CISC, Jim Keller, Paterson and a lot of big names in CPU architecture said more than once that there's no difference in modern world between both. The modern x86 isn't the same x86 from 1990's and the same for arm.
A thing that people forgets is that Architecture and ISA are 2 different things, an rough explanation would be that ISA is the language and the architecture is the way that the processor works. In a car, it would be the wheel, gear shift and more, while the Architecture would be the engine, powertrain, fuel used and more. So it's not because that cars since it's inception uses wheels that means that modern cars are ancient.

A lot of recent research into ISA shows that on maximum performance, the operations per watts are basically the same between CISC and RISC.

So he's liquidating his inventory now? Is that a sign the CEO is stopping the hoarding or that actually dire times have hit the company?
34k is chump change for him I imagine
But if he actually sold that sony CRT, that is worth 1/10th of what he made during this yard sale
There is a LOT of autism in this video. Linus' stupid low selling, even if he is financially stable, just rubs the wrong way. You don't have to be greedy but be reasonable.

He was getting rid of useless shit that was clogging up the warehouse, like that scorpion chair.

It was basically a giveaway for fans. Linus being irresponsible with money is a meme.

Haven't watched it in full yet but the latest vid is "fixing Dan's setup". Dan seems like a chill dude, somewhat competent, sense of humor, I like Dan. Nice to hear he's doing OSTs and indie gamedev in his free time, I appreciate such things.
That prompted me to start looking for his non-LTT work. No xitter, no itch.io, no soundcloud, no mobygames credits. Good on the guy, keeping the hobby very separate from LTT. Except...
The Bedfellows is a mature-content webcomic and animated video series. The two main characters are named Sheen and Fatigue (aka Taylor). It was animated in Flash until episode 34, then it was animated in Maya.
  • Sound engineer and editor Dan Besser: episode 1-4.[2][3][4][5] ("Danny B." in episodes 2-4)
I never heard of this series, don't plan on learning more. Maybe Dan's not a furfag and this is just a coincidence or a paid gig.

*Context on who Dan Besser is: He is LTT's main fixer (proper use of the word) and is one of the notable 2nd wave hires who is part of the LTT inner circle.
Dan's job is to ensure that Linus' company is running efficiently and to take direct-tasking from Linus (and Luke) to complete technical tasks that would otherwise bog down the retards they have writing/producing videos. He is one of the most empowered people in a company filled with mostly middle managers.

Dan produces the WAN show and is one of the most broadly capable/intelligent people they have on staff.
Prior to Luke moving to work on the LTT video platform Floatplane, this fixer job was primarily filled by Luke. There is some low-level animosity between Luke and Dan.

Interested me enough to dig a little, Comic came out in in 2012, based on some earlier art/characters going back to earlier, maybe 2006/2007.
Alongside the 2012 YouTube animations, there were comics posted to Furaffinity with attribution... and a now-deleted account (privated pre-2015) was credited for being their " Falic Audio Artist"

Account name: Fann, made in 2009 with the name Dan,
Account was privated and subsequently deleted when FA began allowing that.
Based on his journal write-ups, it's 100% him and lines up with details he's provided on WAN show over the years.

Including a couple profile screenshots in this post,
Archive link also contains more including his favorited artwork, so enjoy a face-full of wolf cock and Lucario blowjobs as Dan seems to

I'm also attaching all 7 of his uploads in order, and embedding the one with explicit cringe lyrics about deepthroating donkey dick

Song Title: Take me Out (Let's go Out)

Beyond the furryshit, Dan's FA journal also details his attempted suicide, manslaughter, substance abuse issues, moving to Vancouver, and other life trauma.
Perhaps humorously, this stops just short of him stating "LTT saved my life" as he describes his life in 2014.

Attached comments from close friend also imply he was going to attend Rainfurrest 2013, potentially defurred due to his car crash the month prior to the convention

Linus dyed his hair "blonde" (orange) for some reason. Mid-life faggot crisis.

They brought back Scrapyard Wars, where they wear makeup an disguises to hide who they are, but the second part is already delayed (by at least one week) because Linus saw the final product and didn't like it and had to tell the sponsor it's a delay. The first part is just them dressing up which is gay and pointless and can be skipped.
