It's not their first time. They also did a video about (ab)using google-drive to store hundreds of terabytes on their "unlimited" plan, only for google to pull the plug several months afterwards and ruin it for everyone.
If he truly thought youtube or the channel was dying, he'd just sell it off and sail into the sunset. I think he's stated as much in prior videos too.
