I also really enjoyed his videos. Were they not the best quality wise? Sure, but definitely had at least some more information on Linux stuff than Linus ever really put up. I always had the impression that Linus is a midwit, he learned all the shit he knows from the people around him but he's not actually too bright himself.
I cringe consistently when he makes videos about software. Even in the de-google your life you just need to take two seconds to look at https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted and you can find much better alternatives than most of the stuff he said, they're also all self hosted unlike some services he recommended there.
Since he has such a high output of videos I don't think his writers have the time to actually research the shit they're writing about too much. It felt a bit like Anthony was the kind of nerd who actually tried it at home before doing it at work, so he could actually show some more in depth shit, but since he trooned out we'll never find out.
She's not a beauty queen, but she looks like an average woman with bad teeth & acne, both fixable. I'm surprised she doesn't have braces, you'd think Canada's health system would get that done for "free" or something. Many ugly people could look at very least normal if they just took a bit better care of themselves.
We like thinking of doctors as these intelligent, superior people who can make much better decisions for us. In many cases, that's true and you should regularly see a doctor, but for mental health it's a bit of a different story. As it's all self reporting it's incredibly difficult to have proper studies. Just look at how many trans studies have this insane 99% rates of people being very happy with it, which don't really exist for the vast majority of other treatments.
A lot of people in STEM gatekeep studies like your average person isn't capable of comprehending their complexity, but when some basic questions don't seem to be asked in these studies such as "are these people lying due to social pressure? How can we screen for that? What would be a more objective assessment?" you don't need to be a genius to figure out the issues.
I know they get paid for this and big pharma and billionaires investing and yadda yadda, but the mental health professionals I personally know who are trans positive don't get paid for it, it's more of a vibe for them, and they throw the same weird studies I mentioned above in your face. They genuinely believe they are helping the person.
In my first visit to a shrink, after about 30-40 minutes of explaining my isssues, life story and whatnot, I got prescribed Clonazepam. That's what Peterson got fucked up on and had to go to Russia to get his stomach pumped and colon cleaned or whatever. A whole ass bottle, not even a few pills to get me started. I made it clear there's addictive personality issues in my family tree.
I don't even deal with anything to warrant going straight to the big guns, just regular anxiety/depression issues. The shrink was useless too, turns out having a stable relationship, eating healthy and working out was the fix, not a bottle of pills.
He also gave me some SSRI. I don't pretend to understand how these work and I'm not going to autistically screech "hurr not even the docturs know". I'm sure there's some scientific basis as to why they're prescribed so often, but I do think they really fuck around with your thoughts. Getting angry less often is surely great, but I was also more accepting of shit I wouldn't normally have been accepting of, I had a much easier time believing things based on how they feel. I was mellowed out mentally, and I found it hard to focus on things for long periods of times.
Now, most of these people who troon out aren't exactly poor. Trooning out is quite expensive. You don't really see many troons from the hood for a good reason, being poor doesn't allow you to have this degeneracy because you don't really have the time to deal with that. Born in the wrong body? Yeah whatever, you need to worry about what you're going to eat, not what your true purpose in the universe is and what really is your identity.
With so much time on their hands and so many accepting communities online, depression, they're likely fat, ugly, have 0 charisma, believe something like the world is unfair or a version of that, lack of women in their life, power fantasies, add in a shrink that gives you drugs that make you even more retarded than you were and it's not hard to see why someone would troon out. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the trans were just confused gay dudes.
I do really feel sad for them and I genuinely hope they can be helped somehow. Shrinks and mainly online communities enable them and destroy their lives. They're depressed and look for a way out of that situation, so they find an online community that accepts them, that they feel happy in. The crowd generally is pro tranny, so they become pro tranny too in order to fit in, then end up genuinely believing it. When I was a kid, online communities would berate you for being retarded and that kinda kept you in check, but now you can find a splintered off community who 100% is with you, and you have nothing else to stop you from going this weird route. Your friends probably don't care enough about you to keep you in check, or you have none, or they have the same issues. You're surrounded by yes men.
It's a vicious cycle. How do you even get them out? We've all had that one buddy, or have been that one buddy who did some stupid shit or was in love with someone bad for them and had to get burnt to understand it was wrong. But with chopping off your dick there's really no going back. People say puberty blockers are reversible, but you don't get back your teenage years, and if a girl's voice roughens up those vocal chords will never change back. If you've ever known a woman who had issues producing too much testosterone or anything similar you know how rough their voice can get and how much of a mental struggle it can be.
Legislation can be horrible many times, but I think this is one of those asbestos situations where it should be straight up banned everywhere unless there's a legitimate reason. If some eccentric celebrity does it, that's different I guess, personal freedom is cool, but the vast majority of trannies are basically groomed and tricked into it. This whole splinter of online communities destroying people's mental health is the sort of thing that a modern Jung will study and write books about.

Yeah he wasn't anywhere near as techy as he made out, but behind his bland expression you could tell he did at least like tech, and I kind of like those low energy nostalgic tech youtubers. I wouldn't go to him for tech advice, but I didn't mind seeing him review the analog NT for example, and in the millenials try OS9/Win95 or whatever they did, he was the best part of those videos even if, again, not a tech wizard.

Level1Techs is pretty good for linux stuff, the type of things Anthony and old LTT woulda done did. I don't often watch things like this but I enjoyed a couple of his videos enough and his interactions with GN to also recommend them.

Wendell is a beast for everything he gets his hands on. People who watch LTT literally say they don't like the bland information dump of Gamers Nexus. But Steve does not say something so technical, generally, in my opinion. Wendell's videos, especially on odd topics, like that SSD recovery madness, are always educational.
He is one of the few (the only serious?) that cover Linux, yes, but he uses everything(-ish? not sure about Mac...). He had uncovered a bug in Windows with Ryzen processors, some time ago, for example.
I remember Wendell used to say he is a "computer janitor", or something along these lines. If you have a problem you call him, and he will bring a solution. He is the guy that gets things done. I believe his technical knowledge is above everyone's in Gamers Nexus team. And they are a rather strong team. (I mean he can do their job, without losing much in the process, on top of all the other knowledge and experience he possesses.)

Him comparing downloading videos to stealing food from a restaurant is obviously moronic. It would make more sense having the only option to getting food being a store that actively makes your customer experience worse with every change, to the point where it is borderline unusable, spies on you, tries to extract as much money from you, and eventually banning you anyways, because they don't like your opinions.

I find the discussion around advertising interesting, because I think Linus falls into a fairly unique category.
I see there being ~5 general outlooks on the ethics of advertising:
If there exist laws, regulation, guidelines, Terms of Service, etc. all the better. He'll point to those rulesets as validation. If there are established norms, trends to follow, popular viewer sentiment, etc. that all just feeds into the bounds for what is "ethical" any given day.
Whenever Linus seeks to justify their approach, his logic is circular and then devolves to pained analogies or appeals to expertise/authority. But I think it's sincere.

- They think it's ethical, based usually on capitalistic philosophy (exchange time <--> money) or libertarian ideals (as long as you're not infringing on the rights of others)
- They do not think it's ethical, but have rationalized that they are only exploiting people too stupid to know better, who will consume the slop and not block ads
- They do not think it's ethical, but they have a character flaw, and they do not care about the impact to others.
- They themselves have failed an IQ check in life, and likely do not consider the ethics/morality surrounding advertising (or really anything they do).
- Linus' case, they have outsourced the ethical determination, they have convinced themselves that by following rules, creating processes, and seeking outside validation, there is nothing wrong with how they comport their business.
