Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

Have you seen the google Play/App Store about the application page of floatplane? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.floatplane.floatplane&gl=US

Even amateur developers knows that you don't put a license agreement on it, instead you put text, images and shit to improve the SEO of the app
LMAO the first screenshot is of the login screen. That will really convince someone who has never heard of the app to download it.

Turns out YouTube is actually providing value for their 45% cut and it’s not so easy to clone the site. In one of the WAN Show clips someone shared earlier in this thread, Linus claimed that people he interviewed who work for FAANGs have too high salary expectations but they should work for him anyways because he offers good work life balance, which shows how out of touch he is with the tech industry.

Today at Linus Shill Tips.

The comments are rightfully giving concerns and grievances instead.

They're right. I've never heard of Floatplane until recently and if I go on that website, I see nothing except some stock photos and buzzwords.
If it is a streaming platform, shouldn't we... see who is streaming? This "Floatplane" is the Onlyfans of streaming.

I've heard them talk about Floatplane over the years and always thought it was some kind of unspecified cloud shit("it's uploaded to floatplane"). So they're really bad at communicating what their product is.

Ahahaha holy shit are you kidding me? I've heard them talk about Floatplane for years but I'd never checked out the app store pages for it. This is hilariously amateur. Look at the first screenshot listed on the page;

It's just a screencap of some dude's phone on the main login screen. What a fantastic app! It has the ability to log in! Absolutely amazing description too.

If I didn't know what Floatplane was this page would tell me absolutely nothing beyond the fact that you can log in and I have to agree to terms and conditions when installing it. Amazing.

Am I crazy or was there was a version of floatplane that had content and streamers on the mainpage like Youtube? I swear it wasn't this shitty.
I remember looking at it a while ago as someone was shilling it and it was super opaque then. I checked the Wayback machine and today's page is identical to a capture from a year ago: https://web.archive.org/web/20210706064002/https://www.floatplane.com/discover
2 years ago they did actually feature uploaders but it still looks like the homepage of an MCN and not something for normal people: https://web.archive.org/web/20200728191545/https://www.floatplane.com/discover

I'm remembering a white and orange page design and a few streamer thumbnails back in the 2017-2018. I'm probably remembering the wrong thing.

I'm guessing they have the same issues as Valve, where you work on whatever you want and sucking up to the important people gets you better benefits and career growth. Why work on Floatplane when you can instead help Linus move into his new house and build favor with him? Hell, go work with the "engineers" and build Unreal Engine maps all day and have the company order random bullshit you want to screw around with in your free time.

You probably only get the "Intel Extreme Tech Makeover" if Linus likes you enough, and even then you still have to have your place and lifestyle filmed so the company can make some bucks off you.

Yeah but Valve has infinite money so they can afford to be weirdos. Linus should have figured out the infinite money part first.

Curious question, at what point do people feel like Linus started to become insufferable?

For me, it's when they stopped doing the weird but interesting builds (full room watercooling) and building competitions (Scrapyard Wars).

Once it shifted into "this machine has X components, let's benchmark it" and "here's this product, buy it", it became insufferable.
I think shortly after they moved into the new building it all went to his head. First two seasons of scrapyard wars were great.

Mah ogre got himself a hair transplant.
My guess is they sold enough water bottles and graphic T's
