Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.

As mentioned above at 59:00 Linus talks about buyin a used electric vehicle (from a Porsche dealership so it likely is a Taycan) and having to deal with Quebec title transfer yet it seems like it comes down to his precious NDP Vancouver policies not working, and he even has a little bit of a no shit sherlock moment that voter ID is good, but then buys into the lie that states try and stop people from getting ID in the first place in the states.

At a point early on they talk about how they made a FloatVPN after PIA was bought by Chyna, but were turned off by the potential legal issues. They mention once you hit a certain number of subscribers it prints money which is why they have such massive discounts from the big VPN people.

The interesting thing from this week is at 2:22:35, where the entire thing they set up last year of having a standard issue computer parts across the company and standard rigs has been rendered moot because they have too many employees and they can't get the parts in stock for those standards (mainly motherboard). So the solution is to just use the free computers they review/build for videos to give employees but that just creates the same issues for logistics that happened in the first place. There is talk of having Puget Systems build standards but it's across the border which means bad for whatever reason, as if you can't just have someone hop over every weekend and pick up a machine or two instead of building an add-on at your new house. You would think one dedicated in-house tech person would solve the different rig setups but that's too elusive a goal for these fat neckbeards.

Speaking of free computers,

Linus pretends he doesn't care about these memes of him but you can tell he's a narcissist. What is really dumb is this is the computer they will use for their Short Circuit set, I guess to connect to monitor reviews, because the 100 hour handcrafted custom case from that one girl a few months ago was apparently "too bright" for the editors to work around. Sounds like a really gay excuse, you could just dim the lights on the inside or adjust the RGB.

Coffee already made a video about a crypto scam Linus promoted:
Linus talks about that video at 23:57 in the WAN show video. He didn’t know it existed until chat told him about it.

To be fair to Linus, back when he was promoting it, Nicehash wasn't a scam. It was an exchange that operated a mining pool where you paid an exceptionally high fee for the convenience of the miner software that automatically benchmarking which crypto you should be mining, and which paid out directly in bitcoins instead of eth and monero.
It was always targetting idiots because setting up a wallets for eth and monero is hardly any work at all, and those two were always the most valuable coins to mine so Nicehash's benchmarking was always pointless, but they never actually scammed anyone. It claimed to be an expensive but extra convenient mining pool, and it was. I helped some friends set it up, and it worked fine for them. They earned a bit of crypto, and were clever enough to listen to me when I told them to withdraw their bitcoins into real money ASAP.

Now that eth is PoS the only coins you can profitably mine at home are monero and chia (and the profitability even then is on the order of at most a euro per month), Nicehash has turned itself into some kind of weird gambling service instead. It's probably fair to call it a scam today, but back when Linus made that video Nicehash was genuinely a convenient way for a gamer to earn a bit of crypto with his computer overnight, which is all they ever claimed it to be anyway.

so I take it he cheaped out on production. The chemical smell is called out gassing.
I think one of the people here predicted this:

Many chinese factories produce high quality products at first, but after a while they deliver cheaper, inferior products. They basically said LTT had to have strict Quality Controls for all incoming backpacks to spot these things.

Yep, this is quite accurate. I have some experience with chinese companies. In short they can and will produce products with superb quality, but you have to watch over them all the time. As soon as they smell blood aka lack of your control they will fuck you over and use every possible trick to cheat you, it's like they are programmed to do this. With how overstaffed LTT is and how much they deal with chinese you'd think they'd learn by now and send somebody to watch over production, but something tells me linus might think this is raycist so no quality control lol

It really shouldn't even be a racist thing for ANY company regularly dealing with any contracted service. Trust, but verify. Assume your vendor has both the best of intents and the worst of actions at any given time. Spot check any and all shipments, pull product and parts off the line for a full litany of stress and abuse testing, etc. Even if the vendor isn't intending to pull a fast one, it only takes a few lazy staff on their side to miss things. And most vendors that try to pull shit intentionally will back off if caught a few times - they're looking to save a few bucks, not actually kill a relationship.

At their inventory volumes, this could easily be a part time role for some general floor manager, its not a huge burden to deal with, just needs to be codified and accounted for. But I'd imagine the floor over at creator warehouse is in such a level of disarray that even tracking accurate delivery counts doesn't happen - I wouldn't be surprised if they're regularly writing off large amounts of shrinkage without knowing whether it was unrecorded product replacements, lost in the void of the warehouse, possible theft, or someone assuming the 500ct box actually had 500 items.

Trust, but verify.
This is not just a good bussines advice, it's genuinely something that if you apply to your life it will make you happier and less stressful. Yes, there are some manufacturers who will go above and beyond to satisfy your demands (...while costing an arm and a leg) but it's still good practice to remember that shit happens everywhere. I can only guess how linus and his team handled this but i can't imagine anything else than them seeing first batch, being happy with it, hearing something like "oh yesss mister rinus, have you seen what we made? rest of them wirr be same just trust us bro" and just going with it. Well, at least we gotta praise him for practicing what he preaches, and besides, the results are hilarious. A goddamn 250$ backpack smelling like chemical plant and leaving orange dye marks on the cloth, holy shit.

There was an old 4chan post i read years ago about how the anon is in the steel industry and how the chinks try to cheat you. It is not just plastic shit, that they try that shit on. It is fundamental parts of buldings and things that need to be 100% safe. It even extends in to fake SD cards and fake USB sticks, shit like that i have had to deal with personally. If the chinese can take advantage of you, they will. As a westoner, we have this culture of fair trade at least when it comes to goods. The chinks do not have this culture. If they can cheat you, they will and they will consider it your fault for being cheated. Because if you were not a fool in the first place, you would not have gotten cheated.
It is not racist, to call out what they do. To them it is part of the haggle.

As a welder, absolutely true. Steel isn't a element, it's a alloy, and any alloy worth it's salt is more than iron and carbon: you got nickel, tungsten, chromium, and a ton of extra shit that can make it stronger, lighter, more flexible than what you think of steel, like that piece of Rebar you buy at home depot that's little more than shit. You got to be careful with the Chinese, as you've said, especially in the last two years with them being in constant lockdown, trying to cut corners and cheat you out of what you paid for, like the smell in the bags or the missing screwdriver bits( that screwdriver is autistic btw).

They literally ask their customers to scratch an X into the handle to earmark it as a bad pre-release driver + they seemingly have no way to proactively reach out to people. Surely they'd have some sort of serial number and could earmark them as replaced units not eligible for warranty? Maybe even include the serial number ranges on their site so people can double check incase some Craigslist faggot is trying to scam them. If I warrantied a pre-release driver, would they even know? Would they know if I tried to warranty a Chinese imitation?

I bet you that the Creator Warehouse is even worse than you could possibly imagine since basic stuff like "Put serial number on product" isn't being done.

I can buy something like a screwdriver not being serialized, at least when its random merch shops and not from a serious tool manufacturer. But not having order tracking/history is horrific. You should be able to pull up everyone who had an order shipped before X cutoff date, and then track that warranty against their number. But I'm guessing the whole "Trust me Bro" warranty stance originally was because they didn't want to set up any sort of warranty tracking system. S'not hard to do, but it can be a bit tedious and costs a bit of money to set up a system to track warranty actions/notes against a given order#.

The X thing is stupid, but its also probably the right call - not marking it specifically, but just saying "Fuck it, keep it, its probably fine, but its not covered for anything else.". Actually enforcing it wouldn't be worth the hassle.

Considering how much money they get, a basic tracking system, much less serial numbers, should be a given. Just look at guns, serial numbers have been common since the 1800's, and even a basic ink stamp on this supposed premium product would be able to clear this whole issue up.
