That's another thing, the craftsmanship. Something tells me, just knowing the cost of these machines due to my welding background, not all of this was CnC machined. Probably a lot of this was old school, mills and lathes, due to the cost of getting good used ones for cheap. You can use both with extreme accuracy if you know what you're doing, its just slower, which for a start up company where $2500 means a fuck ton, would be a wise move.

Am I the only one who thinks an accusation of sexual harassment detracts from more interesting controversies? If Linus is directly responsible for actual sexual harassment (groping, etc) than call him out for it. If it's just some random coworker doing it than call them out individually. Every company has gross Indians and m2f sexually harassing their coworkers.

The prototype would have cost the same in China and everywhere else. With all the shipping and labour on your end involved, it's usually more expensive to outsource prototyping.
There's also the risk of your IP just being outright stolen. It happens everywhere, but especially in China. Workers often leave and simply take all the files they can to sell off or (hopefully) for future use.
That copper block was likely made locally, and it was probably a mix of CNC and hand assembly. They likely assembled it themselves, labour which I bet they did not take into account but should rightfully bill Linus for.

Someone saying they self harm to get out of work is someone who is severely mentally ill and should be institutionalized. Just call out sick. Don't show up. I believe that story is embellished. There’s no way that someone who is supportive of “Emily” is running around calling employees “faggot”. If what she said was true, Linus wouldn’t be able to keep a single employee.
Linus has messed around a lot, but nothing he does actually helps him. The only thing that matters is watch time, and poor quality videos that cause people to skip around or leave greatly reduce recommendations. Monetization has no effect on the algorithm (demonization is different because it’s a punishment). Why would YouTube care that you get paid? They get 100% of the ad revenue on a non-monetized video.
Videos that are good and recommended by the algorithm have more views than subscribers; Linus is lucky to get more than 1/15 of his subscribers to watch a video. The way to grow is to focus on quality, not on quantity, cheap tricks, and urban legends about the mystical “algorithm”.

Agree. If you're prototyping, you want that done in house before mass production. No one can see the dev process, the fuck ups, and what you learned from them. I think Madison is at risk of being revisionist for the sake of making herself look good. However, she makes some good points. It sounds like management culture is consistently bad/incompetent, and these nerds are unable to handle themselves around a female co-worker. There is almost too much detail to her posts. I think most of what alleges happened, although some of it not to the degree at which she is portraying it.
The contractual changes are probably the most interesting as it is something that either party can refute, as I assume there is written communication.
Regarding sex "jokes", etc... a lot has been written. I remain of the opinion that LTT is a nightmare of manchildren that think that dick jokes are the best thing to do in a professional environment with everyone, and cannot distinguish between work-friends and normal colleagues (Linus is a prime example of this). I can imagine Dennis being too touchy as a "gay guy" who gets away with far too much, and Colton being his bitter manlet self.
