I'm also curious as to the last time Anthony was on their channels, and whether there's going to be a bunch of uploads that go up where he's clearly still employed by them but he's cut out as much as they can and is just seen here and there moving something.

He won't do that. His channel is a result of previous review work at past employer (NCIX) that went insolvent. He was the underdog there. I doubt he wants to do it again or not be an ego maniac ordering people around. That being said, he'll run entire thing into the ground.

You can see Dan has been trying to make things work but he's now being forced to finish things the construction and contractors should have done but they don't because there seems to be no project manager so they just say "not in my contract" and walk. As a millennial watching this, this is what happens when others in my generation are scared to be the bad guy or the dick, even when it's your right to be. I remember in the beginning of the year, there was a lotta attention on all the creators who were fucking off and cashing out, and the more I see how the rest are fairing, the more I double down on my earlier statements that it was the right call. Matpat and Tom Scott are off and free of this shit as old blood like LTT speedruns retarded bankruptcy, depending on sponsor models that probably won't hold up the next few years. And that's not even touching on the likely adpocalypse and offramp shitshow that Mr Beast and his pedophilic friends are laying down onto the platforms right now.

Also, wide and general LMAO at Linus thinking he can turn his space into a major esports scene. Outside of all the structural problems with esports right now, I don't see how his center would be able to meet the needs of a live audience show. Its one big converted warehouse, with cheaped out thermal and electrical systems - no tiering, staging, nothing. I have immediate questions about his capacity allowance if he tried to fill it with people, but I also have to question why, with its extremely cheap setup, would an event chose to host there over just anywhere else. If you need to do all your own setup and crowd accommodations anyway, you might as well rent a normal convention center and do it yourself - far easier to get the size you want/need, they actually will have the parking for an audience crowd, and your not going to be dealing with LTT insisting on slapping their branding all over the event as Linus larps as a shoutcaster.

So Live Audience is out, meaning its sound staging for a livestream event, again which means they don't need to come out and pay a premium for LTT's setup, they can just rent a soundstage anywhere, likely have on-hand contacts and resources that are familiar with it and can provide set crews etc. Really doesn't add up.

I guess he could do local league stuff without issue, but I doubt the city government is particularly interested in the esports equivalent of little league softball.

The same way matpat and others got a sweetheart deal to "sell out" Sony negotiated with will Smith and Adam Sandler to basically dedicate a quarter of the studios resources to whatever they want to make. How much it paid off is up for debate but it meant Sony had first look rights and controlled them hard. Paramount apparently has a similar deal with Tom Cruise and David Letterman got the TV version of that on CBS and it's why Craig Ferguson had free reign to do whatever the fuck he wanted.

Also we only assume whatever deal Linus got would have been amazing. The smosh guys "sold out" as quickly as they could only to find out they did it for nothing because it was an "all stock" deal for a company that knew it wouldn't ever go public

Not everyone got a Makers studio or Mojang level windfall, and I think that spooked Linus a lot too. He's from the era where it seemed like only scammers would offer YouTubers deals. And most YouTubers that "worked for a company" quickly vanished once they got the pink slip. Remember mydamnchannel or recklesstortuga? Back in the early 2010s when the biggest YouTubers were all just LA people who figured out how to upload things online?

So it would make a bit of sense, especially with his family to want to try and build up the company instead. If Linus was a bit younger or started later he probably wouldn't be as hesitant to give control to others

What Linus enjoys in life is larping as a "real company".

And he's been broadly successful, revenue in > costs and all. Granted, the means by which he achieved that are dubiously sustainable (FFS he's sold the advertising rights to his chair), but if tomorrow he was to liquidate all assets in the company and pay off debts, he'd walk away a wealthy man. (though not nearly as wealthy as if he just took the $100M buyout offer from a couple years ago)

Why does he like having the company? I view it as he has a staff of ~100 people who are aligned to enact whatever wacky vision he has any given day. Not just because he pays them either, no they BELIEVE in the vision. This also discounts that he has his family and main social circle on payroll as well.
The company puts out slop "Top 10 best laptops on Temu" videos to pay the bills, while anything Linus has fleeting interest in building/developing/producing can be delegated to a team of people. He reaps the benefit of having those resources readily available at any time while being funded by the inertia of past success.

That said, when the YouTube-merch-Floatplane-consulting-landlord-Labs-badminton business starts to unravel and he's forced to look at downsizing, I suspect he'll get talked into hanging it up and selling off the profitable 2-3 parts of the company.

Anywhere in the business/public perception world this is the case 99% of the time. Jeff Skilling left Enron about 6 months before it imploded ( while he had been named as the new C.E.O to be ) as he knew it was going down. No press release, no public statements made by him nothing. Then bam, largest corporate fraud in history. Even if Tech Shrek had said that he had found another job and didn't have time to prepare a statement, at-least he said something.
