Linus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2

LTT having a clause in his employment contract that doesn't allow the discussion of wages is all I need now to hate this guy 100%. Dude is a POS.
Also, the fact that he goes to his forum to mobilize his 12-15 year old fans against people he doesn't like is so funny, peak lolcow behavior.

why would attend LTX at his own expense in the vague hope of getting some extra subs for his hobby YT channel?
Especially when every trade show/convention ever knows that if you invite someone to be a a featured guest, you pay for their boarding and travel. This is how all of them work.

And let’s be real, LTX is a minor fucking show, no one got bigger audiences from it

the scenario itself is plausible if a bit circumstantial, it's how very convenient it is that the one message he would be able to use as ammunition against Steve happened to be lost this way, and only that one message.
It's not plausible... if Linus were to have switched phones mid-conversation with Burke and it happened to cloud-sync the old number... why would he immediately assume that Burke was acting in bad faith?
Wouldn't the natural reaction be to assume that the reason you hadn't heard back was because you had just gotten done switching your phone?

from my perspective Honey is doing no harm, and actually provides a small value to me (which is all they ever claimed to do in the first place).

Besides, I consider it a moral good to not let influencers get affiliate link money. That money comes out of product advertising budget, which comes out of the price I pay for the product. I'd rather get a percent of what I pay extra back, than have that percent go into a shill's pockets.
I've been catching up on this just now and didn't want to reply to the (surprisingly multiple) faggots defending paypal because it's been over a week but this is just too fucking retarded.

You know what other costs come out of the "advertising budget" and get passed on to you? The fucking protection money companies are paying to honey. Companies that "partner" with honey and have to pay protection money will have higher costs that will be passed on to you. Companies that don't "partner" with them get fucked which also increases costs that will again be passed on to you.

As far as the "small value" you're getting either a predictable partnered-company-approved 5% or 10% "discount" (which is the entire point of partnering with them) that they can raise their prices to compensate for. The honey rewards scheme is similarly retarded offering 30 cents back while honey takes a 30 dollar commission. You are sucking paypals dick for pennies and telling everyone how great it is because you are a retarded whore.

How you can't understand that adding another do-nothing rent-seeking middleman to the process won't increase costs to you is beyond me. How would you feel if you hadn't gobbled corporate cock this morning?

All I’m saying is that they do the same things Linus does, except they at least give me one percent of what I pay extra back. Advertisers are all scum who need to be lined up in front of a ditch.

So here's the thing. If I, as a consumer, order without Honey, I don't get any discounts. With Honey, I would get a small discount. I can find discount codes and enter them myself, which might net me a bigger discount than Honey, but nothing's stopping me from just using Honey and adding my own discount codes, which gives me either both the small and the large discount, or just the large one. Honey is at worst no added benefit, and at best gives me a small discount for zero effort.
Further adding to Honey's value is that affiliate link cashback thing that was mentioned earlier in this thread. Purchases made with Honey and PayPal net me a percent back or whatever, out of the money Honey earns by hijacking affiliate links. If I were to buy with Linus' affiliate link, I wouldn't get any cashback whatsoever.

Honey is objectively good for consumers. I can see why shills like Linus and GamerNexus might loathe it for what it does, but from my perspective Honey is doing no harm, and actually provides a small value to me (which is all they ever claimed to do in the first place).

Okay, and the fact that they're tracking every single thing you're doing to build a profile about you based on your browsing and buying habits?

Who do you think makes the coupons in the first place? There isn't anything to "protect." The companies themselves dictate the coupons.
If a company is raising prices to offset Honey coupons, then they're just as likely to do that before any Honey partnership.

You're describing the entire internet, including the very platform these content creators use to post videos.

It’s loathsome, but there are very few browser extensions not doing this, and you don’t even need extensions to run into this issue, Facebook and Klarna and whoever else is already scraping and selling this data without any input from you whatsoever.
I don’t use Honey. I’d never tell someone to use Honey. All I was saying was, Honey gives me one cent where Linus gives me nothing. They’re both shit.

"Everyone does it, who gives a shit."
Yeah, pretty much what I expected.
The question of "your privacy is being violated so a company can make money" should not be answered with "yeah, but who isn't and besides I get crumbs".

In the case of Honey you actually get a choice if you want to participate or not (you either install it or you don't). The same can't be said of Google or YouTube. Even in this thread with a YouTube embed you're being tracked. If that's your biggest problem then you should just turn off your internet.

"Quit expecting better and demanding people stand up against abuse! Just completely remove yourself from society if you have a problem!"
And you people wonder how Linus gets away with his fucking bullshit.

If you actually cared about internet tracking you wouldn't be wasting your time complaining about an irrelevant and optional extension.

That's just the publicly visible part of the Honey deal. Companies have to pay money to honey to be a partner of them and be able to decide which coupons show up.

You think Honey would let you influence them for free?

And in the case of: Who cares if Honey shows customers coupons that are too good. It was created in the first place. Often times coupons are a tool in refunds and similar things, so customer 1 gets a refund and so a coupon for let's say 100$. Honey grabs that coupon and gives it to another customer. Customer 1 then can't use the coupon anymore. The company got fucked because they had to pay out the refund 2 times now.
