From my experience, the more "into" the Lolita fandom someone is, the higher the crazy factor goes. The regulars and core members of a community especially.

It's not so much that lolitas are into ageplay, its that people into ageplay are into lolita. There's always that one weirdo at a meetup who wants to act like a little girl.
 
I personally really dig the clothes but the gatekeeping in this community is real. Also I don't find that much wrong with the fetishists, they are a thing in the goth scene too and nobody is getting their panties in a twist about them there

Part of this thing is that people already associate lolita so heavily with ageplay and that part of the community that's horrible and they dont want to be associated with it. While the goth community might have some fetish elements it's not as overt in today's culture what with every girl and their mother calling their boyfriend "Daddy" and being a little.

Basically no one wants to be some assholes wank fodder.

Meh I lowkey disagree. I think sexuality is something adults shouldn't find shameful as long as it's harmless. Clothes get sexualized all the time, no matter how much self proclaimed 'Lolitas' will bitch about it that doesn't change the fact that any woman can buy an ap piece and call her bf daddy

Maybe it's just by chance, but I've hung around Lolita communities, and the long time members usually have something they are covering for. Then I go on the internet and see the same thing pop up there as well. It can't just be co-incidence. Lolita draws certain types to it, just like any other type of hardcore fandom. Many hate being associated with that though (even though they have their own skeletons/issues) and if they are smart, keep it all under wraps.
