Stupid PL- there used to be Visible Belly rats. Two multilevel cages with newspaper pellet bedding, girls in one cage and boys in the other. They ate human food as treats and veterinary lab blocks for their main diet
Rats generally live for 2-3 years (even the ones I got from a breeder) but they’re very prone to respiratory infections and cancers. I had to put 3 of my rats down when I took them to the vet because I could tell they were struggling and the kindest thing would be to put them down rather than letting them suffer a long drawn out painful death to be ended with multi system organ failure.
It’s a very hard thing but a mercy I think.

Even if she was cleaning the cage all the time (doubtful), didn’t have them on pine or cedar bedding, gave them a varied and proper diet, she still failed on giving them a kind death because her narc ass could milk things for longer without euthanasia.

Plus I’m pretty sure ferrets are social animals too- rats will have a shorter lifespan if they’re solitary.

So even worse the remaining ferret is probably going to slowly get worse and fade away with no social interaction or a peer for company.

If he’s this upset about the ferret dying I feel a little bad for him because this sounds like a major life altering event or something.
Would love to believe they broke up or got evicted but I think there would be way more fireworks than this when that happens.

Honestly, never got the impression Kev had anything but love for the ferrets. Sure, he didn't post daily pics of them or anything, but not every pet parent does that. May have been a situation where he wasn't very close to them at the start when Lori moved in with them, but bonded with them pretty closely after some months. Both Kevin and the ferrets are victims in Lori's abuse, after all, and most normal humans have a deep compassion for animals. We all know she neglects her pets, so Kevin likely just took up the mantle of doing most of their care.

His reaction seems pretty normal to me, especially if this is his first time having to watch a pet die. Losing a pet hits really different when you're actually the one physically there and the only one that has to make the decisions, compared to being just a kid and all that weight being on your parents.

Definitely agree. If your pet is terminally ill, sick and suffering until it dies you should put it down. Slightly confused at the hand wringing over how the vet could save them. Wouldnt the vet tell you to put it down, as well?

I just dont believe they tried giving the ferret medical treatment. As callous as it sounds, a pair of ferrets is like $200ish dollars. A week of meds is probably just as much and these people are literal e-beggars .

Ferretsperg: Probably a insulinoma, which is a progressive deal where your ferret just dies of hypoglycemia or related issues in the end. Would explain "medication time". If you feed your ferret a good diet it is less likely to die from it. Good diet is expensive, which would mean less spicy hoofshoes.
