Unfortunately our liberal modern society generally leaves people like Lucas until they die on the streets, or they murder somebody, at which time they will cheerfully be locked up. Even a beating will result in some therapeutic slap on the wrist, and being temporarily sectioned is basically a hotel to people like Lucas. Sectioning people for extended periods of time is immensely difficult to do, and regardless of threat, they tend just to have an emergency seeing to, some token cooling-off time, and then are allowed to leave regardless of how worried the professionals are about him. It's political HIV to advocate for taking 'vulnerable' peoples 'rights' away regardless of their threat to others. Due to his disorders, Lucas can't be treated to any great level of success either (he can't be forced to take his meds), and the professionals involved will string things along to whatever degree they are legally compelled to, loathful of their time being wasted in a system that is built around cycling them back into society ASAP.

It's particularly bad in jurisdictions where citizens have limited rights to defend themselves, at least in Florida a person can rightly blow his head off if he goes psycho on them. In the UK, for example, the person punching back would be arrested and pukey sent on his way. I guess at least they have ASBOs. Imagine Lucas hit with a court order not to have contact with anybody below 18, or to ever hang around a city centre

The very word asylum sounds so grim, but most people seem to forget the word asylum means protection, not only for the patients from the outside world but also the outside world from the patients. This title is amazing and I am in love with it, but as usual this joke of a video is serious and meant to make him look clever. Lucas fails to provide even a basic point here, let alone construct an argument. Very condensed scattered thinking :

Lucas uses the term "snail mail" (Jesus Christ). Claims the reason he makes such embarrassing videos showing him dropping food onto sleeping homeless people is to "prove" he does it. He doesn't want to do it, and doesn't do it to inflate his ego Lucas considers you not to be a real democrat if you don't feed the homeless for attention. Claims "caring" is classist unless you date homeless people. "I haven't had a job in 20 years". So many buzzwords, "Yang Gang", "Bigot", "Agephobic", "Nigger". Lucas claims it's okay to say nigger because he knows who Fred Hampton is and that you're racist if you don't use the word. Says the only "unproven" claims he makes are because he needs to shield his many friends from the haydurs. These people "send him gifts" (are they the same people who whisper in his ears when the room is empty?). Once again reaffirms that he's so special that you will need to be nice to him before he is nice to you. Sounds a lot like an exchange of services in the free market to me, the same social free market that wants Lucas to fuck off forever.

One of Lucas's many miscalculations is that he thinks every tactic for getting social attention doesn't cancel out the other. His 'wigger' (to use his words) phases resulting in video titles such as his latest "Hook Me Up Wit A Clit An' Sum Dollaz" does little other than to make him a persona non grata to what he proudly boasts is the most progressive generation evar. For all the research and superficial conclusions he makes about young people, the more the years pass, the less he understands intersectional theory, appropriation, privilege, small social nuances, or that personal integrity is as important as it ever has been. With Lucas all an unfamiliar individual has to do is browse his social media and they'll see a trend-follower who has no sincerity or dignity and will do anything to satiate their lustful desires, including making themselves the butt of the joke to everybody in Spokane and the internet.

He's also totally unaware that manners and social nuance (even among extremists) always have existed and are just as important now as before, only different. A lot of where he trips up is basic noncomprehension of what it takes to be taken seriously in a society - decorum, behaviour, attitude, disposition. As much as his constant LARPing claims otherwise, it's not politics that explain why he is in the situation he is, he's just a dumb, lazy slob. The politics were reverse-engineered to help him try to live with himself. Everybody can see through it.

I have to agree with this. There is no need to be cruel or abusive about it of course, but there is and likely always will be a segment of society that either can't or shouldn't be around normal society because its in the best interests of everyone involved. Those people need care, oversight and to be kept off the street. Like you said the term and concept has had a bad rap over the years. Not that it has been entirely undeserved, but that can certainly be changed with modern knowledge and technology. Lucas is exactly the kind of person who should be in such a place
