So, I think his new "friend" might just be using him for amusement but Lucas is so fucking delusional and thinks people should WANT to be his friend so he won't fucking realize it. Lucas realizes people are near certainly playing with him. He has no choice since it's the only human attention he gets. Either he accepts this and hopes for a miracle or he gives up dying alone. It would be wiser for him to give up, but that's hard to accept.
