I know modern Wernologists have largely agreed our subject has a reptilian brain. But, the fact that he can contradict himself in a matter of mere seconds leads me to pose a new theory: goldfish brain. Perhaps he is so incredibly stupid that much like a standard goldfish, Lucas forgets everything in the time it takes him to swim across his bowl.
It is widely acknowledged that Lucas is stupid, and suspected that someone, maybe his mother, once called him clever. Perhaps having spent much of his 20s in psych wards, with peers who lacked intact reasoning, gave him an inflated sense of his own intelligence. Anyway, Lucas is dumb. The results speak for themselves.
But we're Wernologists, and autists so let's look closely at his particular dumb.
Lucas is called "reptile brain," for good reason. His interests are largely those of an animal in rutting season; his imagination seldom transcends teen poonaner and how to acquire a supply of it.
While I agree that Lucas has undeveloped, primitive thought processes, I don't think it's accurate to characterize him as a reptile brain or goldfish brain.
As for the former, Lucas thinks about more than mating and eating. Not much more, but more. Lucas is keenly aware of his status.
Both his own low status as a male and potential mate, and the higher status of male's with credit cards and functional penises. Lucas knows that by what the world values, he comes up short, and the solution is to attack the world. I don't think lizards are as invested in, and tortured by status as Lucas; accordingly, I think of him as some sort of rudimentary base mammal.
As for the latter, goldfish, I like the analogy, and it amuses. It misses something though: Lucas is trapped by his past. Rather than reset every lap, Lucas is fighting decade old battles to this day. Think he's forgotten the hurt and shame of Lacie and her preferred consort, Da Pussy God? The sick feeling when smart pretty interesting girls laughed at him and called him gay? He's like a goldfish to the extent he has a very small world, though. It's always the same issue in his little bowl.
On the subject of Lucas as a primitive creature, consider his strategy for acquiring food and shelter, and compare it to his strategy for getting a mate.
