Lucas said he was diagnosed with bipolar at 20 and started collecting SSI then. After that, it never made sense for him to work tbh.

Living on SSI is far from the worst option. You'll never be rolling in dough to even appear middle-class, but you get more than enough to maintain necessities, have some fun in life and never worry that you'll be broke. You really need to fuck up bad to be homeless and destitute like he is.

Yeah SSI isn’t perfect but you’ll be ok if you can learn to do basic math and budgeting.

Its just another thing that makes me question how he got on the honor roll for english in college. He can't even use basic words correctly so you know something shady was going on to get him on there

and its exactly that behavior that keeps leading him to runins with the cops and his cycle of getting repeatedly committed. Suppressing that kind of anger isn't healthy and isn't possible in the long term. It inevitably builds up and becomes uncontrollable no matter who does it, and in lucas's case when that point finally hits he goes batshit and spends a few more months in a psych ward. Lucas himself knows this because its the first thing the doctors in the psych ward would have told him about in regards to the importance of learning to control his anger to avoid situations like that. Lucas of course doesn't listen and refuses to accept that a) he has a serious problem with anger that causes these incidents and b) he is the cause of that problem

It's been a while since I was in college, but is it possible that it's calculated based purely on your GPA, so if you get all A's in remedial classes you'll still get on the honor roll?

According to Lucas, his anger is his righteous response to the injustices in society.

Living, as we do, in a culture that rewards this victim-mentality thinking, it's easy to see how Lucas got this idea.

And of course, if his anger is everyone else's fault and an expression of righteous fury, he's not obligated to change anything about himself.

Remember: Lucas always says him not having a girlfriend is YOUR PROBLEM, not his own.

It's insane, but this is the sort of defense-mechanism-thinking which allows him to exist with a minimum of guilt and shame...or at least to project that he's not at fault.

At most schools, remedial classes do not count towards the GPA. Having seen lots of the papers Lucas turned in for that class, and having had some relevant teaching experience, I can assure you that the teacher was grading purely on metrics like "did he use 5 academic sources, did he meet the word count, did he turn it in on time, is it reasonable to assume that he put some amount of effort into this". If the answer is "yes" to all of those questions, it's possible to get an A in classes like that. Developing academic rigor / teaching truly applicable, high-level research and argumentation skills are not generally expected of students at that level. IMO, this does people a disservice (making people think they're cut out for college/a research-oriented career when they're not, allowing people to skate by turning in dogshit papers like Lucas did, etc.), but whatever.

ETA for clarification: I don't think remedial courses counted towards his GPA, but, IIRC, the English classes were not remedial - only the math was. He failed the math class, which did not affect his GPA because it was remedial - thereby allowing him to qualify for the honor roll. Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been a while since the college saga, but I was pretty invested in that narrative, so hopefully memory serves me right.

i don't have a problem with Lucas not having a girlfriend. i would prefer he fail to obtain one in perpetuity.

i have to assume that he does this reflection because people are annoyed or tell him off for his antics, and hence why it's other's problem and not his... yet he's the one that is constantly begging and pleading - desperate for some woman's attention. since Lucas is the complainer here (i don't have a girlfriend and it's not my fault), and people don't have a problem with that (people are not going out of their way to resolve the "problem") then people are obviously okay with Lucas not having a girlfriend.

then Lucas, refusing to improve his situation, and like a small child, insists on others doing all the activity to improve his lot in life.

this is why Lucas is such a loser. the distilled essence of being a whining, desperate loser that refuses all responsibility and takes no ownership of his life, content to live on the dole and scrape by instead of leveraging handouts and assistance to get ahead in life.

this is why Lucas engenders no respect (and i assume, no desirability for women).

i think, and you can see in his videos since he lost the apartment, that he came to that realization, but his own incompetence at self-analysis and his pride and ego prevent him from acknowledging it. a problem unacknowledged is a problem not solved. Lucas being "injured" by not having a girlfriend is Lucas' problem. it injures no one else naturally - Lucas has to go out of his way and spend his energy injuring others (annoying them with videos, screaming, and disgusting behavior) instead of improving himself.

kind of a feedback loop, isn't it?

If only Flatbills and Graybeards are the only ones getting laid how come he never tries whatever either of those approaches would look like? Lucas if your reading this a Flatbill is a good start but you need to be both Flatbill and Graybeard for the best results, Throw on a Flatbill then climb straight up the nearest mountain and start shouting at the old guys up top to assert dominance and start on the path to becoming pussy oligarch.
