Lucas emerged from obscurity in January, 2017. and became famous for sexually harassing teenage girls. Many Wernologists were created by stories like this:

Over night, complete strangers became acquainted with Lucas's obsession with teen poonaner, and the baffling "scientific" justifications he offered for his lusts. Many graybeards and flatbills were introduced to "telomeres" for the first time. Lucas was, of course, widely mocked and studied.
After coming to the public's attention, Lucas's world began to rapidly contract in February of 2017. Being famous for being a creep proved stressful. Lucas's social media went fallow, leading to speculation that he was dick tucking in the face of public scrutiny. Following his Starbucks ban Lucas was, in rapid succession, banned from the Spokane library and its grounds, at least two other coffee shops, multiple downtown restaurants, and the local Greyhound/Amtrak station. In each instance, Lucas's ban was attributed to harassment. It was reported that Lucas was carpeting Spokane with his notorious love notes, and even directly confronting the patrons of the establishments he haunted. In brief, he continued the behavior that earned him his notoriety and Starbucks ban, and spread it out over Spokane.
Lucas was creepy and aggressive.
By the end of February, 2017, Werner was noticeably absent from social media, and the streets of Spokane, fueling speculation that he had been hospitalized or jailed. How Lucas at last came to the attention of the authorities is unknown, and the subject of much speculation. While the specific instance that lead to his confinement are unknown, the the most popular theory is: sexual harassment.
On April 4, 2017, Lucas's detested older half-brother confirmed in a Facebook post that Lucas had indeed been hospitalized, and was scheduled for release in July of 2017.
After a hospital stay of approximately 5.5 months, a heavier, slower Lucas emerged from Eastern State Hospital in early July 2017 and took up residence in a halfway house. Within 48 hours of his release, Lucas announced his return by declaring that he would pay a "very legal 16-25 year old woman" $1,000 for a dinner date at Churchill's. Apparently having learned nothing in his time away, he lost no time sexually targeting teens again. Lucas would later withdraw the offer, and be banned from Churchill's, but Lucas's menacing lust for teen poonaner made the news again:

At about this time, Lucas cryptically announced that he'd lost his new housing due to "haters." It was reported that Lucas had violated the conditions of his release from the hospital, and tenancy at the halfway house, due to his social media posts about teen poonaner, and sharing the address of the halfway house in an attempt to attract teen visitors.
By July 20th, after barely a week out of the hospital, Lucas's social media went silent again and he was reported to have returned to Eastern State Hospital. Once again, the final details of his hospitalization, and what role his family may have had to play, are unknown.
On January 22, Lucas was released from the hospital a second time, even fatter and more disoriented than before. He picked up just where he left off, and immediately returned to Facebook to solicit dinner dates and evangelize his telomere "research."
