He's literally functioning at the level where, if Lucas likes something, or sees it in a positive light, or thinks it's cool, he'll assume everyone does.
For example: Lucas remembers people in high school that he thought were cool liking bands like kmfdm, so he assumes that if he mentions the band now thirty years later, people will think it's cool and be impressed by him.
