My bf(27) came to me last year in June, and admitted that he had been masturbating behind a store in the middle of the day and a woman had come up to him and asked him if she could help him and proceeded to spit on him to “help“. That was the extent of what he told me at the time, he cried like a baby and apologized, and I’ve been processing how i feel about it and what to do. Fast forward to yesterday, and he is forced to admit that there was more to the story.
He comes in the room, where I am literally shaking and tells me that there was more that happened on the day at that woman spit on him… Apparently it was a set up. Once she spit on him, a bunch of guys came out of a car and boxed his car in so that he couldn’t leave and then assaulted him with a “toy” took a picture of his wallet, beat him up, and then let him go.
Apparently he got a phone call from an unknown number, basically saying “remember me?“ Where are they then proceeded to give him the names of a few of his close family members and the address that they think we live at. They’re sending him the pictures and telling him that basically they’re going to do that to him if he doesn’t pay up for wasting some call time… He sent them $5000 before telling me anything all on Zelle. Once he did tell me, and I was able to see through my blind rage, I reverse image, searched all of the pictures they sent him, and they all linked back to random articles from the last three years about cartel activity and other domestic dismemberment stories. I even found an article that showed text messages containing similar vernacular to the words the people on his phone were using for him…
I don’t need advice on my relationship… I am more, so wondering if the money that he sent is going to be recoverable at all… We’re supposed to move in 30 days and that was our deposit and first months rent. He said he was going to call the bank today and see if he can reverse it but is that even possible? I just want to prepare myself for when he comes home and tell me what’s gonna happen with the money. Also… is there any possibility of this is true? I saw a lot of articles online about people getting scammed like this but I didn’t see anything that said they had an actual physical run-in with someone. Does anyone know anything about this?
TL;DR : my boyfriend got scammed into sending $5000 to someone because of a stupid mistake he made… Is any of that money going to be recoverable?
