He took Youtube to court, they ruled in his favor and Youtube had to reinstate his channel BUT they still haven't done it to this day.
Apparently he's sending Youtube's legal team e-mails and everything but only getting bot replies.

@Null You're Neil Mohan's top guy, so this could be worth mentioning on stream, but idk. It's funny cause your channel got reinstated and you didn't even ask, meanwhile the guy was making legit content and even taking them to court did nothing. lol

Honestly, thinking on it, the British have done, and continue doing, such extreme damage to the world that it's actually insane. Pretty much every single horrific issue we have in the West can be traced back to the British fucking something up, either intentionally or not.
 
Trying not to piss anyone off, please don't take this the wrong way. Josh mentioned depression again in his cheese posting and I'm trying to understand it.

Is the whole "depression is a choice thing" a disagreement about semantics?

Here's the Webster definition:
a state of feeling sad : low spirits : melancholy
And here's Mayo Clinic:
Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
And here's the DSM definition of "psychiatric disorder:"
  1. A behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern that occurs in an individual
  2. Reflects an underlying psychobiological dysfunction
  3. The consequences of which are clinically significant distress (e.g., a painful symptom) or disability (i.e., impairment in one or more important areas of functioning)
  4. Must not be merely an expected response to common stressors and losses (ex. the loss of a loved one) or a culturally sanctioned response to a particular event (ex. trance states in religious rituals)
  5. Primarily a result of social deviance or conflicts with society

If we're using the Webster definition, if you're in a state of being sad then you're depressed. So, if you're sad because your home is trashed, that's a choice: you could simply clean your home.

On the other hand, if you're sad explicitly for no reason, and the "choice" you're making is to be sad about nothing, that's depression by both definitions. It's a disorder because it's not normal to be sad about nothing, and impairs your ability to work on things that would benefit you: if you're going to continue to chose sadness regardless of if things in your life get better, you don't have the same motivation to put work into those things.

So then there's this hybrid state, where a person is "clinically depressed" and has no motivation to do the things that ward off sadness, like cleaning up after themselves. Then, they end up with a trashed house. Now, it's impossible to tell if they're clinically depressed or not because they might be sad due to a disorder, or they might be sad about their trashed house (which would be normal), or possibly both.

And then here's the tumblr state of depression, which is where you decide that people are not at fault for disorders, but also people with disorders are indistinguishable from people who are just lazy, so you claim to be disordered as an excuse for being lazy. This, somehow, is the most common form of depression on the internet.

So my understanding of Josh's meaning of "choice" here is this: Depression doesn't physically remove your ability to clean your house, just your motivation. Even if cleaning your house won't make you happy, you can still just "choose" to do it anyway for practical reasons: The clean house won't make you happy, but it will stop you from tripping on garbage. If you're sad for no reason but can choose to continue to be productive, you're not dysfunctional, and if you're not dysfunctional you're not disordered. Therefore, anyone who is clinically depressed can chose to stop being clinically depressed by "choosing" to remain productive (they will still be sad, but they won't be clinically depressed).

So Josh is saying anyone who has clinical depression can simply chose not to be clinically depressed. And if you can chose not to be clinically depressed, you don't have an excuse to clean your room: you'll just have to be sad while you clean. But when Josh says "depression is a choice" people think of the Webster definition and think he's saying "sadness is a choice because you can fix what's making you sad" and get upset, but he's really saying "clinical depression is a choice because you can choose to not let it affect you," but he agrees that there is some sort of mental/psychiatric problem that causes sadness for no reason, it's just not as big of a deal as the tumblr people using it as an excuse would like you to believe, and doesn't "require" medication or treatment for the same reason nicotine patches are not a "requirement" for quitting smoking.

Did I get it right?
