Minus Dick Tips. Lmao.

Null should really not write-off Toyotas immediately if he wants a post-apocalyptic truck. Since he is not in the US, the Toyota Hilux is an option.

I got the impression Null wants a vehicle for the US? In Europe, you have an endless choice of cheap diesel cars, because they were like 90% of cars a few years ago but are now being phased out due to emissions. And you don’t have to have a 6000 pound SUV to be accepted in the ‘hood.

In the US, all second hand car prices are ridiculous, all the more so for trucks. If you want to save money, just avoid anything that is has a cult meme following or is popular amongst “modders”, instead get something common enough to get parts cheaply.

The comment about diesels being superior for your post-apocalyptic survivalist requirements are largely correct - *old* diesels will happily run on any fuel you can find including kerosene / heating oil, gasoline up to 50%, etc. Diesel can also be stockpiled more easily - gas goes bad and is at high risk of exploding your property, and is illegal to store In large quantities for that reason.

Diesel does give better MPG because there is more energy content in a gallon of diesel than in petrol. If you care about fuel economy though, just avoid unnecessarily huge vehicles.

I would also have a lot of faith in electric or plug in hybrid cars for turbulent times, IF you have a secure base with plenty of solar power to charge it up. You could last for years without needing any fuel or maintenance if you’re just doing local journeys for supplies and so on. Fuel is always in high contention in any volatile situation, and you will have a vulnerability if you’ve hoarded it or if you’re regularly needing to buy it.

As far as avoiding computers and electronics in vehicles… if it’s for reliability reasons, to be honest anything this side of 2010, the computer stuff itself is not likely to let you down. Sensors can go out and the car will still run. 80s and 90s ECUs are more delicate and just getting too old to be reliable, and also difficult to replace. So either avoid them completely (I.e 80s or earlier basic low tech pickup) or something more recent and just don’t worry about it. If it’s for privacy concerns: eh, your phone is far more of a vector, or just going anywhere that has cameras. You can always take the SIM card out of your car if you’re super paranoid.

I spat out my coffee and ran, ran to tell Josh that the fat dude from Linus Tech Tips was becoming an ugly "woman" but of course I was late (but thankfully not gay). He's certainly fat enough where his features have become ambiguous, he should consider losing weight first before chopping anything off - if he looked like a man he'd be less inclined to act like a woman (or rather, a man's interpretation of what a woman is).

Null should really not write-off Toyotas immediately if he wants a post-apocalyptic truck. Since he is not in the US, the Toyota Hilux is an option. You might be familiar with the Hilux from nearly every single 3rd world war zone since the 80s. They are notoriously tough as hell and you can strap a cool machine gun into the bed with relative ease for your various driving and shooting needs. It seems to be the premier truck for people with oppositional defiant disorder and/or problems with their current government.
Recently a youtuber with far too much money decided to durability test a newer Hilux that he had to import from the UK. Over the course of 3 videos he abuses the shit out of it, including driving it in a desert without any engine coolant. Spoilers: the only thing that stops it from running is literally dropping it from a helicopter. Here's part 1 for those interested.
Edit: (of course someone decides to superchat this exact fact right after I post this)
No diesel is a dealbreaker. I want an engine for the apocalypse.

I’m kinda surprised that there are American cars in Serbia like a GMC Sierra/Chevrolet Silverado. But then again there’s probably Car importers over there in Eastern Europe. I know Chevrolet and Cadillacs were imported to Russia by General Motors until the War happened

Also Null, Isn’t this the diesel sierra you were looking at? Or were you looking at the newer ones

Let's be honest, all modern vehicles suck ass. They are all full of technology that can be abused and hacked. As a true tradcath man I think it is time for Null to return to tradition.

100% apocalypse proof. Never going to run out of fuel, can't be hacked and also produces fertilizer for your garden.

Ooh! This might be a goer! @Null you like donkeys: get four of them and a closed-carriage to pull and you're all set for the apocalypse!

All joking aside, all the Toyota utes and 4wd in Australia are diesel, is it not the same in Europe?
