Rural HOAs are usually of the basic maintenance kind, but you probably still want to avoid them and look for something else. One nice option I've seen is to be right up against the ass of a rural development, and talk to their HOA, and get a deal where they mow your lawn or plow your driveway, too, for you paying the HOA fee voluntarily. The nice thing is that if you stop or they become king dick, you just drop them and it's not officially covenanted on your land.

rural HOA wont let my grandparents have flowers or fruit trees. rural HOAs have just as much of a control boner as the others. HOAs are more of an ecological disaster than an elite's 40 private jet plane trips a month. Avoid them always no matter where you are.
Those are bangers you can always return to. For me some of the Jim Stirling subscriber loss streams are probably the ones I return to the most as just comfort food. Light-hearted fun with the world's most seething Englishman, highly recommend them if you want something a bit closer to regular MATI than his video game streams (not that there's anything wrong with those).
good point, and something to keep an eye out in local ordinances as well when searching (people forget this as most people move to somewhere they know and don't have much choice). Rural and near-rural HOAs and town ordinances often have lots of "fuck farmers" written into them, which you need to be aware of. Shit towns in the midwest be outlawing chickens whilst megapolises in CA legalize infinite numbers of the birds.
