I can’t believe Josh’s therapist saved the Kiwi Farms
On that topic.
I think therapy can be useful for some cases. Though, outside of when people have actual mental disorders it really isn't necessary.
A lot of people think therapy is what they need to improve their life, become happier, reach contentment, get over anxiety. When really they are wasting money.
Self improvement, and self reflection are Definitely good things. That I would encourage most people to strive for, but I think in most cases therapists, psychologist, and psychiatrists are the wrong way to go.
Mostly because the way to be content in life is just so much easier than people want to believe. Anxious? Simply don't think about the thing you are worried about. Depressed? Force yourself to be more active, find things in your life that you are grateful for, make a list and think about those if you have to.
It's really as simple as perspective. People that think they are helpless over their mental health (I mean people that don't have actual chemical imbalances and severe mental disorders) will be helpless if they won't accept any agency in how they think and feel.
I know from experience. I used to have depression issues, anxiety issues. And I didn't think anyone's advice would apply to me because I'm so special and unique, nothing would work for me except popping benzos or whatever. But no. I was wrong. I just didn't want to accept the truth.
Oh yeah. One point I wanted to make. Is people don't want to accept how powerful our mind is, in our perception of the world. If you think your life is shit, you are terrible, nothing is worth putting effort into. Well that's how the world will look to you. If you think that you have a purpose in this world, that you can accomplish your goals, and everything is OK. That is what you will see in the world. It's a matter of how you want to view things. And it's a lot easier to change than people want to accept.
Edit: to be clear this isn't a reply to what you said, just on the topic. And what I thought about during the stream
Edit 2: I can't reply to this but editing is better anyway probably. I made something to illustrate my point.
