"Mad at the Internet" - a/k/a My Psychotherapy Sessions

I don't agree with him. But my personal experience supports his conclusion. Was super depressed after GF cheated and left me. For like 2 years, had both social anxiety and depression. Was on Pristiq. Eventually had no insurance so I had no medication. Had to learn to live without it. Even if I don't agree with Josh that it isn't real and there can be something physical, chemical, or psychological causing depression, I don't think drugs are the best solution, only the solution they want to pedal to the masses. But it is also kinda weird how Josh takes this position when he basically argued the opposite with Mumkey Jones, "Do not EVER suddenly go off your medication, your depression and mental anguish is very real and you WILL kill yourself if you do this."

Yeah I can agree with that, medication is overprescribed for every condition because it is the easiest and most profitable way to "treat" diseases of the mind. A lot of these medications are the incorrect treatment for the specific form of depression or anxiety someone has and they can actually make problems worse. The recommended treatment is actually a mixture of medications, heavily monitored, along with some form of therapy - this is almost never followed, which is not the fault of the patient but of the medical system itself. Often the treatment is a general medication which is designed to create new symptoms, such as dulling of the senses, with any reports of it not working being to up the dosage or try different medication and any therapy given is often subpar, a system of charlatans focused on profit and disinterested in actually treating people. It's an incredibly complicated field of medicine which is greatly misunderstood and abused for profit. I'm not a doctor but I have an interest in this due to personal circumstances (some of the most talented people I ever met had their lives ruined by mental illness). In your instance it sounds like you got fucked every which way - they just gave you generalized drugs and sent you on your way until your insurance ran out, when you should have been given specific medication short-term while you underwent therapeutic treatment for a traumatic event.

I mean if the medical system wasn't fucked imagine how people could be contributing members of society instead of hollow husks of their former selves - especially in the case of transgenders, a lot of whom need to be treated for their delusions instead of castrated and made to be life-long buyers of pain medications and other treatments which benefit nobody but a corrupt system while feeding their delusions.

But yeah, I think Null gave a bad take - we all got them, no shame in that. To say that we live in the best time in human history and other people have it worse with the solution to all depression being we just need to find a reason to live is to fundamentally misunderstand mental illness. To assume it is a generalized thing that just needs to solved with logic is a little silly but, as he said "It's just my take". We can also all agree that the state-funded murder of depressed people is a much worse solution than "just get over it" though.

There is no definite proof depression is, as often stated, merely a chemical inbalance in the brain that befalls you like a stroke, and then you're just fucked. Medications that alter the brain-chemistry showed to have only an effect (as in: a change, not a healing) on the depression of 1/3 of all probands, pretty much disproving the chemical inbalance theory. That is known since the 2000s, but not talked about much, since it's quite discomforting. Depression may have another trigger, and it may come from outside. That's unsettling to know if you life in an environment where you can't change anything, so people use alternative explanations that leaves the option free to achieve happiness even under most constrained conditions. You just have to take the happy pills.

That being said, I think Joshs view is affected by survivorship-bias.
And people got kids in WW2 because the pill wasn't invented then, and social pressure to have them still existed.

I don't know if this has already been posted, but I've come across something that has MATI written all over it.

TL;DR is some white male academic made an X thread about how no one would hire a white male history academic. Not only he doesn't realize how his politics are responsible for his situation, he gets bullied for ever opening his mouth.

I don't know if I'm allowed to tag Null or just hope he sees this post. But I think it's good content for Friday.

Mad at the Internet for May 28th, 2024 has been archived to YouTube:

Hey, Josh said something about editing Rekiata's home address out of the court doc for the Youtube vod. Did you do that? It would suck to lose an archive channel because Baldo went to the jannies with the right excuse.

We finally got a BINGO!

It was a dicey one and it's debatable if the Breaking Update! is valid with the announcement of Josh buying the bodycam footage and getting the money later, but it's heckin' valid to me :)
And as always, Yet Another Successful MATI!

The real reason Null mocks BASEDMAN Rekieta is because Josh wanted to make his own "Dear John" stream first and is jealous that he couldn't take the glory. (this is a joke btw)

Anyway mocking depression is cool and all until you get your close relative commit suicide (bonus points if they were underage).

I just wanted to say I really appreciate that you avoided talking too much about Dick Masterson. There's plenty of content to be mined there as the guy can't go a single day without giving out retarded takes but he's so infuriatingly contrarian and intellectually dishonest the less attention given to him the better.

At 1:30:12, at least by the Rumble timeline, Null reads 'social media blogger' as 'social mania blogger'.
I think it's a wonderful turn of phrase and complete mush-mouthed vindication.

Reactions: I'm a Silly
Depression isn't just "I'm sad because my girlfriend left me" or such, there are real debilitating symptoms such as inability to experience joy, having zero motivation or drive, having brain fog, having poor memory, feeling like your thoughts are moving through honey and just sort of fizzle out. This isn't something people can just choose to not experience or "ignore and get on with it".
I remember Null talking about having periods where he can't do anything productive and just plays video games for weeks on end, and that wasn't when he was a teenager. He also has been failing to lose weight for years despite wanting to, so it seems to me that he should know that people cannot simply choose their mental state and pull infinite motivation and energy out of a hat on command. It's such an obvious thing that everyone knows to be true from countless examples in their personal life. You wouldn't point at munchies to justify the claim that the concepts of illness and injury are made up, that all sick people pretend and doctors play along to profit the medical industry.

A baffling take overall.

The key to remember with the depression discussion is it’s like autism when it’s online. There are people who really have it. There’s a much much larger crowd of worthless losers who learned about it and claim it for themselves because it lets them be lazy fucks with no guilt. We document some of the worst cases on this very site - the problem is recognizing those who really do have it and want to not have it vs those who don’t have it and for some reason wish they did.

Anyway, skeletor-exit to go find school shooters not on SSRIs.

Wasn’t sure if this was right to post here but seeing people discussing his depression take, I think this is considered relevant. Watched the recent MATI and was surprised as how much Null disbelieved Aaron when nothing he said was that shocking and almost everything was just confirming what was already known on the farms. I don’t think he was lying about most of it.
The story he got the most disbelief over was the snow angel thing, which he had actual pictures of. And much of the stories except the swinging was already told on his own stream.

Null misremembered the story he told about the worst thing that made him distance from Nick, it was Nick doing cocaine at his house and Aaron told him not to bring it again. Nick came over again and brought some, and Aaron later found a bullet of coke on the couch beside where his young daughter was playing. That’s when he decided to cut contact, which makes more sense. Obviously this guy fucked up severley in bringing his kids there and he really is a shithead generally, but he did the thing everyone would expect which was leave. He was the only one who stopped the drugs and moved on. He told his ex-wide about everythig, the drugs too, and was was understanding—I do think that’s taking responsibility like a normal adult.

His Kayla fagging was partly him playing into the self-depreciating joke on Kino Casino, partly true, and partly him trolling Nick as seen on his Twitter too. I doubt he cares that much as he is a self-admitted serial cheater. He didn’t have a story for all their questions, if he didn’t know he said he didn’t know. Even him mentioning the St Andrews Cross stuff is things we already know from the thread, confirmed by Cynthia’s schizo ramblings and Nick has apparently mentioned it on stream as well as a sex dungeon he wants. I just found it very truthful as it aligned with what we already knew, down to Kayla liking that Picard show (Nick mentioned he and Kayla liked it on stream, another thing Aaron said that matched up) and was really surprised other people didn’t. No need to really lie when the truth sells itself, and we know this from the thread being entertaining already.

I think people in general unfamiliar with Aaron and STMS before this Nick stuff are too busy trying to condemn him (rightfully) since they didn’t have an opinion of him before and are over-correcting. He has his own hate community from before and while he’s pretty scummy and boring, he is somewhat normal.

I agree, "just chose to be happy" is one of his worst takes. In my opinion happiness comes from building a life for yourself that you enjoy and are proud of and that takes a lot of hard work and effort and self-evaluation to figure out what actually makes you happy. I think it's more fair to say that everyone can chose to work on themselves to improve their life a little bit each day to hopefully eventually be in a place where you are happy with your life and yourself or chose to give up.

So I watched the stream today and my tism kicked in when watching. Those cabinets in the kitchen were definitely not custom. They are like $250 here in canada from homedepot. Custom cabinets are way nicer and more expensive than those. Although, the roof must have only been 7 or so feet high because normally there is a bigger gap on top, which the trim covered of about 3 inches. Good stream otherwise that 1 insane mistake you made.

Obviously joking for anyone who doesn't get it lol.
