Most of this institutional persecution is guided by, but not actually carried out by those who actually care about ideology. Think of every vice known to man. Greed, lust, desire to harm others, etc. The Cathedral has carrots and sticks that play into all of them.
The status quo that exists in today's institutions play on the worst aspects of human nature to buy the loyalty of the majority of the population that thinks uncritically and has no sense of self reflection. It's not just faggots and crazy ideologues out there, every greedy person, every sadist, everyone looking for fame and social advancement - the status quo has a carrot for everyone to keep them in line, and if that doesn't work - the stick.
Look what happens to people who say the most insane conspiracy theories about evil Republicans trying to kill teen mothers intentionally and create a real life Handmaid's Tale, now look at conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones. The difference in consequence is based entirely on whether the system finds your actions helpful to the status quo or not. It was the same in East Germany, most people were kept in line almost always not by threat of firing squad or imprisonment, but by life ruination and total exclusion from everything but the most remote corners of society. Our set of institutions just has brighter colors and more effective carrots than they did.
Half the people responsible for the deplatforming of the Right are doing so only because the things they want in life are easier to get by protecting the status quo than by protecting someone outside of it.
