"Mad at the Internet" - a/k/a My Psychotherapy Sessions

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Even ancient 78 rpms made of shellac (if they somehow managed not to break because they are brittle as fuck) will still play today. Even the fucking wax cylinders invented by Edison will still play today (if they have not been physically wrecked because they were also fragile).

CDs just fucking rot.

I too remember when "games journalism" was for hyping games and telling you things you'd actually want to know, instead of just calling you a fucking white male and telling you they hated you for liking games.
I have plenty of records from the 60-70's that my family gave me and they still work fine.
I also buy old records from savers every now and then of like old classical orchestra stuff from the 70's.
Records do need to be well taken care of (they will warp in high heats and you can damage them by scratching), but yeah there's no expiration date on them.
There isn't really a point to owning CD's anymore, you can just put .flac files on your phone and listen to it that way.
Records have their own unique quality, you either appreciate that or don't - but they are unique.

"if the site is to be successful, it has to grow"

@Null What are the criteria for the site being "successful"? How is it not already successful as an unparalleled archive of lolcows and autism with a dedicated user base?

(I'm a stream behind so go ahead and clock me if somebody's already asked about this.)

Very simple, as with all things important:

Line Go Up.

The price of a PS5 is not really comparible to the price of a PC for a lot of reasons, PCs are useful for a multitude of non-gaming/media applications so a higher price tag is justifiable on that premise alone. Online play is free and competitive digital markets make it much easier to find deals on digital games. They are also backward compatible with decades of PC games and capable of emulating games from modern AND retro consoles. I had a multi-paragraph autistic rant all typed up but I deleted that so I can just put it like this - I grew up playing consoles where you could just insert a game, boot up the console, and the game would just fucking work. Those days are looooooong gone and PC has been the superior gaming platform for decades. So an $800 PC is easily justifiable but an $800 console is not.

"if the site is to be successful, it has to grow"
The Internet is littered with with forums that have single digit weekly post counts, that were alive and thriving until they suddenly weren't.
It's not a case of "any growth is good", look at countries trying to supplement their ailing repopulation rates by importing shitskins, that's an approach failing in real-time. As long as KF is in a position where people with the right disposition can find the forum it will continue to slowly grow, if for no other reason than its existing size and difficulty to replicate elsewhere.

But I think there's an element of obsolescence that happens on the Internet, where if everything else is outpacing you, going through their own eras, you lose a lot of appeal to attract your own catalysts for evolution and maintain the interest/investment of your own users.

I'd be interested if Josh has some combo of internal metric he likes to track specifically or it's more based on feel.

For most of the US there will be a third party candidate on the presidential ticket.
He said he couldn't vote Trump when comparing him with Kamala. Either way, third party aside, this is a highly suspicious move for someone so seemingly concerned with freedom of speech and government overreach. This election is profoundly important and he *should* know that better than anyone. That completely changed my view of Josh. Very shocking.

ETA Idk if it is his need to be contrary regardless of the school of thought and always feel super duper unique and anti social, and if that is the case respect is still lost. Grow the fuck up.

You are retarded for taking the bit about #LoomerCoomer this seriously.

Does anyone have a link to somewhere I can read more about Jersh's claim that the IRS has more income and a bigger budget than the US military? I would really like to read more about that so I can be better informed when I go on anti-IRS rants in the future.

I tried searching "IRS" in this thread but couldn't find any links to anything like that.
