btw I've started complaining about credit card companies in person to business owners when shopping at smaller stores and people really light up about how much they fucking despise having to work with credit cards. for instance I noticed a sign that said "WE DO NOT ACCEPT AMERICAN EXPRESS" and that was a gateway to a really productive conversation about how the entire industry is a fucking racket.

You know they actively despise them when they have a minimum purchase for cards since there's no point in selling a can of soda if most of the profit is going toward a debit card fee.

That's not the only thing they get gouged on either. Every couple of years there's a new machine they have to buy because if the one you already have breaks than, "Oh sorry, we don't support that machine anymore. Give us a thousand dollars for this new one that we won't support in a year". This works out fine for some giant company but for a small business owner it becomes an active determent to their business.

Ask them how many calls they get from processor salesmen sometime, because the most successful processor salesmen are unhinged lunatics working for one of the thousands of shell companies for Visa/MC/Discover. The type of people that will find some random person trying to sell flowers and actively lie to them with little to no consequences. "Oh the fees are way higher than I told you? Well you have to talk to this other department about that. You want to switch because I lied to you? Lol, okay but that's going to be 500 bucks to some other sociopath!"

The whole system is fucked.

They also enforce their own security rules called PCI and getting compliance with them also requires paid subscriptions to "antivirus" companies that basically nag you about non-issues to justify their price. It's a racket all the way down. The entire industry is rotten and needs to be destroyed.

PCI is complete and utter bullshit. I have to fill out all that crap and it does literally nothing to protect anything.

Another reason companies hate credit cards is chargeback fraud. Sure, if you dispute it you usually win, but not always and you still have to put in the effort to dispute it. And maybe it's just me but where I work, despite them accounting for fewer than 5% of our customers, Indians account for about 50% of the chargeback fraud we have to deal with, so you can also segue credit card griefing into unlocking a business owner's latent racism.

I completely forgot about PCI compliance (thank god). What an absolute nightmare.

"cash discounts" are how you have to word it to avoid processor anal pain. i.e. if you're selling a coke for a $1 and you have a 30 cent processing fee (realistic, card fees start at .25+3%), what you'd do is sell the cokes at a listed price of $1.30 with a 30 cent cash discount.
There are places that won't even let you use a card if you're spending less than $2.50 to $5.00. I've only ever seen it in small businesses, though. Bait shops, diners and the like.

Trump has started allowing white south africans to claim asylum in the US. Predictable media reaction is predictable (video related)
Unlike a lot of shit Trump does, or tries to do, it's entirely within the legal definition of qualified asylum-seekers, who are those who have a "reasonable fear of persecution" because of a protected characteristic, such as race, religion, ethnicity, or anything that is targeted within the nation in question.

"My country is a shithole and you have gibs here" is not a valid reason for asylum. "I'm a Tutsi and I'm fleeing Rwanda" is, or at least would have been during the relevant period. Somalians are often granted asylum because the incessant civil wars there very often mean you could be killed because of a protected characteristic. Same with people from the Sudan.

The United States is often a preferred location for asylum seekers simply for being one of the best places to live if you actually get it.

The general concept of asylum under international law, however, doesn't generally recognize "economic refugees," that is, people seeking gibs and wanting asylum because they're from a shithole country.

People threw a total tantrum when Trump, fairly bluntly, just called a lot of these countries exactly what they are, shitholes, but he was right and they actually are, and if they're so great, then why are people not staying there?

From back in the days when The Onion was actually funny.

Whites from South Africa, who are subjected to severe violence and crimes, absolutely qualify.

My local mechanic no longer accepts cards. A traveling food merchant selling Omaha beef told us it would be about 10% cheaper if we paid by check.
People will be upset at first but when they realize it's cheaper not to use the card, they won't care.

I like when he pretends to understand what kiwifarms is. When it seems like his knowledge of it, is based on reading the Wikipedia article. Or talking to his troon friends in his discord server. Or something.
He visited the website in one of his recent videos, just didn't bother to actually read it.

Brodie's explanation of the Rossmann drama was retarded, apparently this guy can go to Kiwifarms and check all of Rossmann's posts, and even find an old Mastodon post (which is not Google indexed) which posted a clip where Rossmann talked about the drama, but he can't actually read the thread to find out that they like him, or maybe he's just a liar who knows to tow the line.

Online salesmen are not human. I know guys who work IT at tech companies and they're constantly having to set up spam filters and block numbers just for incessant salesmen. If you just try to ignore them they blow up your inbox with "get back to me" emails and track down your phone number so they can call you on 6pm on a Friday to pitch some dipshit buzzword solution. If you tell them to fuck off they go to your boss and accuse you of being disrespectful. Leeches.

Drink machine at my local library that takes both card and cash is offering cash discounts.

@Null advice on reporting the manufacturers of this machine to card processors so that they get banned from the global economy?
A couple of my workplaces have Avanti machines/stations. They have a kiosk where you scan items and pay for it by 2 methods, a credit card or a barcode card they provide. No cash machine to give change back. But what they do have is a part of the machine to take your cash full dollar amount, and then they have the gall to say 'we will give you a cash discount!'

So I can either pay 2.25 for a coke by my credit card, or give the machine a 5 dollar bill and put it on a barcode card. they take 2.05 from the barcode card. So you're left with 2.95 on the barcode card. So you get another coke. 2.05 with 95 cents left over. So you have to put in another couple of bills.

I really despise the system of "you must use our cards and we'll keep the 2cents or 90cents left over!"

There's a new washateria in town that does the same thing. You MUST use their card but if you don't use a full dollar amount they get to keep the change. Fucking scummy.
