The other thing is that making any kind of money off of llamas or alpacas is probably unattainable. Lama (using one L is a catchall for llamas and alpacas) wool is an extremely niche product. While it is warmer, softer and stronger than sheep wool or cotton it doesn't take dyes as well which is extremely important in a fiber's marketability. Furthermore, lama wool has more natural crimp than cotton or sheep wool which limits what you can make from it and it grows way slower. Llama and alpaca ranches are usually run by wealthy retirees or have one or more people working real jobs and just raise the animals as a hobby. I've never heard a lama owner refer to birthing as "lambing" but maybe that's a Colorado thing. Baby llamas and alpacas are not called lambs, they're called a "cria."
