Still repeating the old lie. Madonna was never that poor and her family was quite well off.
I'm pretty familiar with her hometown and yeah, she was certainly priviledged. I'm surprised she's continued this narrative it's so pathetic.

Fun fact, "Madonna" is her actual birth name, not a stage name (I recall there being controversies involving the Catholic Church thinking that her name came from the Virgin Mary, but no, it was the actual name her mom gave her).

#35 dollars and a fairly hot physique for her age. (Imagine if her face looked like Russel Greer's, I don't think it would have played out the way it did, lol).

As far as I recall, "sex appeal" was always her thing even since the 80s and 90s. Why she didn't faze it out as she aged gracefully, I have no idea; nor do I think it's realistic for most or any women in that kind of industry to expect to be able to ride on that for their entire life.

(I can't think of any other aging female stars who are doing that and expecting to stay relevant; example - there's no way that Nicki Minaj will be able to continue to put out the smut that she does into her 40s; heck she may not even last in the industry past her 30s).

(For what it's worth, she doesn't "look" terrible for her age if she was just wearing normal clothing and acting normal - however the fact that she's still marketing herself based on "edgy" sex appeal or a "party girl" persona which hasn't evolved since the 90s is what makes it gross, other than maybe to fans of GILF porn sites).

Madge's brother Christopher completely shut down the "$35 and a dream" mythology in his memoir "Life with my Sister Madonna." It wasn't quite the Judas piece of work I expected, but he definitely dished up some goods. One of them was about this. He said something to the extent of "She was a middle-class dancer with many contacts in Manhattan, many other dancers and instructors, not some waif without friends or food. She had money and a support system all ready to go. The more she talked about this initial trip to Manhattan, the deeper into this pure mythology she would go."

Has Madonna, in the haze of COVID isolation and painkiller addiction, forgotten that her own brother has dispelled most of the bullshit she flung around in the 80s? It's astounding to see her fall deeper and deeper into mental illness and desperation as she refuses to accept that she is irrelevant, and has been for quite some time. Her childish, misspelled, grammatically-challenged social media posts only underscore what a hollow person she really is. But man, what a team she had for a few decades.

Mylene Farmer is three years younger than Madonna and have been doing almost the same sex appeal pop since the early 80's to the present day. The difference is that she's not a scary, hungover, vascular grandma. While Farmer does not look like the average woman going into her 60's she is about what you can expect of a rich pop-star/celebrity taking advantage of everything that comes with that - she's not free from plastic surgery but she doesn't look like a small child left without adult supervision in a room filled with fillers and face tighteners. I'm really not that familiar with her but she's still cute and more importantly seems to understand that she can use a more age appropriate look without looking frumpy.

I remember her father being quite upset by her stories of poor, starving artist in NYC, she had plenty of money and support from him.
He got harassed by fans thinking he left her to starve.

Her dad (if he is still alive) owns a winery in Northern Michigan that’s quite lovely. If you didn’t know her last name; you wouldn’t make the connection though.

To be a martyr of sex appeal is the hill she has chosen to die on. She should have gotten the message back when her "book" Sex was poorly reviewed, and the negative publicity actually dragged down the sales of the album Erotica (which was really a shame because the music is very strong), but no, she chose the feminist kool-aid, and convinced herself that she was victimized by the prudish, uncomprehending public who is fearful of a successful women who dares to, well, express herself. Thereafter, ever since the album Bedtime Stories, she always has a song or two about how the public is in the wrong and she is a victim.

It helps Mylene went from 80s pop star with cleavage to doing personal pop songs that look at the world outside herself. And eventually she worked with the same team that made Gaga Lady Gaga. Madonna was always just about people smelling her queefs vs being recognized as a "tortured artist soul" which is typically what makes great entertainers and why so many of them deal with mental problems despite fame/wealth. Vincent Van Gogh cut off his ear in his later years..Madonna steals skin from younger people to deny herself a reality that is approaching. Real Artist embrace the aspect of Death as well as Life!

Dont watch Madonna's video

Mylene's video 6 months after Madonnas...This is legitimate Art imo

She went to Wayne State right? Had a fabulous dance teacher at what is still a reputable artistic institution. Even at that time, you really couldn't be impoverished and attend a storied institution such as WSU, let alone pursue an arts degree. She's so ugh.

I'm slightly ashamed to say that I have never heard of Mylene Farmer before. She is simply lovely. This contrast between her work and Madonna's only shows that Madge is, and always has been, artless and trashy. Don't get me wrong, I love a lot of her output, but the concept of smoke and mirrors has never been clearer since we all began witnessing Madonna in her dotage. It's somewhat distressing. *sigh*

If she had done something more in line with her Ray of Light era in her later years (currently now) I think it would have been very well received and would have been age appropriate. She could still do all the fillers and plastic surgery she wanted without looking desperate.

Everything she had put out up until her current era was good and well received. Ending her "sexy" persona with Confessions on the Dance Floor would have been a good move.

Instead of any of this happening we got an elderly woman with a grill gyrating about bitches.

It's disappointing to watch a legend intentionally tarnish their reputation out of desperation.

mylene's video is adorable

WARNING PELVIS THRUSTING

Madonna could have given in after this 2005 release. It's a fairly fun poppy album and the videos are far more relatable which is what pop should be. other than a woman near 50 leading the sexual crusade the album is and should have been Madonna's swan song to "Womyn are Sexual Animals"....Is encouraging woman at the age of 45 to have a healthy sex life a bad thing? Idk. I'm gay. meh.

If you lengthen her underwear by 6 inches they become shorts and this video would be bearable. Honestly the biggest flaw of madonna is she throws her hoochie at you in every other frame. Has she not heard of a skirt reveal? a grand moment?

Id say this video is good...until pelvic thrusting starts 45 seconds in

She should have trusted sales figures: both Ray (which has the progressive cred of William Orbit) and Confessions (which coasts on disco nostalgia) are her comeback albums, vastly outselling the adjacent albums. The edgy, political American Life and the shamefully age-inappropriate MDNA were her worst bombs so far -- not counting the even more political Madame X which promises to be way worse saleswise. But I guess she's got so much money that she no longer gives a fuck.

From my perspective it looks like Madonna is chasing the young audience and that young audience always grows up in an album or two. It's like a joke, Madonna's audience never ages but she gets older. She still got some of her old core audience that have grown up with her music but looking at her antics, videos and concerts it doesn't seem like she is focusing on them.

Madonna is spiritually the tarot card of the bad and trashy mother that hits on her teenage daughters boyfriend while the youngest pours her a glass of day wine. Really trashy vibes these days.
