I was meaning to mention cyndi lauper as well. Her music currently actually is appropriate to the age she is. She isn’t singing She Bop and trying to get someone ANYONE to fuck her. She isn’t trying to be anything but a talented singer. Madonna jumped the shark (IMO) when she released truth or dare and her stupid sex book. From there it’s really all been downhill. Also she didn’t give blowjobs for votes for Hillary like she said she would. That’s just unfucking American there lol.

Cyndi also had success with Kinky Boots, which she composed the music for. She’s done quite well for herself.

"Music" squandered the last of my goodwill. What it is with pop singers wanting to be white rappers?

She rallied with "Hung Up." But I think the damage was done. Post-2000 Madonna is just following trends.

That Cindi Lauper NYE 2021 performance was pretty funny, though.

I think Debbie Harry is another example of music stars from that era that are aging gracefully.
She still looks pretty. I only wish she would retire "Heart of Glass." She doesn't have the lungs for it anymore, and it's painful to see her try.

Yeah, I heard Stevie Nicks live a couple of years ago (Rock and Roll HoF ceremony maybe) and it was kinda sad. She’s still awesome but she can’t hit those notes she used to.

in her defense, she’s fucking 73

Cyndi Lauper embraced the LGBT community long before it was cool or even socially acceptable, and as such, she’s a gay icon. That’s also part of why she faded out (or got silently pushed out) of the mainstream so fast too, I think.

She can fucking sing, though. Of the 3 “80s” girls, I’d put Cyndi Lauper miles above Madonna or Tiffany as far as talent goes. “True Colors“ is a hell of a song.
Yeah, that is a tune.

I'll never forgive her for ruining Another Brick In The Wall when she did it live...she absolutely butchered it, it was awful.

Don't forget about Belinda Carlisle as well! My mate was so into her and Tiffany...I wanted to kill him when he started on one with them. Terrible racket. I was far too cool for that shite 😂

Older men can have babies with younger women, younger men can get allowances or (hope upon hope!) inheritances from older women.
A mild refutation here of this:
While older men can father children with younger women, those babies are at higher risk of being diagnosed with autism and other things. Sperm banks won't accept donors over the age of 40, and they actually have a bunch of donors for women of 'advanced maternal age' and these tend to be the younger men in their early 20s.

Back onto Madonna.

I think she is trying to run away from any acknowledgement and acceptance of her own aging and mortality. I think she's also scared that she won't matter anymore and people will forget her, once people start seeing her as an older lady and not the shocking, provocative young singer she had been accustomed to being seen as. I'm guessing she doesn't want to go quietly into that good night and be yet another aging singer singing to her fat and middle-aged fanbase the songs from their youth and her former glory days.

That is the impression I think I'm getting of her.

That's a scary thought.

I would stop touring if it came to that. One of Donna Summer's last live performances is on YouTube (RIP), and it's a sea of boomers waving their arm-flab left and right.

The only reason why people liked Confessions was because of the ABBA sample for Hung Up. They could have replaced Madonna with any other pop singer and it would have done as well or better. Ray of Light was her last remotely decent album.
Ray of Light was probably the best album of her career, although I thought Music was a worthy follow up.

Creatively, her career definitely peaked in the 90s for me. Most of her 80s output was catchy pop you could enjoy listening to, but she didn't really mature as an artist until Like a Prayer. Her decision to go left-field with her next two albums is what made me a fan, though, and I still think that both Erotica and Bedtime Stories were ahead of their time.

American Life is the last album of hers that I bought, and it mostly fell flat for me. Confessions on a Dance Floor was catchier, but creatively lackluster. It was all downhill after that.

Seems like American Life changed her a bit.
  • snubbing a fan for giving her the wrong flowers ("I loathe hydrangeas"),
  • snatching African kids out of the womb
  • recording the worst Bond theme ever
  • leaving her own brother to starve
  • ruining Guy Ritchie's career, which didn't score her any points.
I think a lot of people just want her to go away.

Seems like American Life changed her a bit. Any time she was in the news, it was for some asshattery. Like snubbing a fan in public for giving her the wrong flowers ("I loathe hydrangeas"), snatching African kids right out of the womb, or letting her brother rot in a homeless shelter. She also ruined Guy Ritchie's career, which didn't win her any points.

Ugh, that horrible Swept Away movie she did with him. That and Body of Evidence are two of the worst movies I've seen.

The only movie that Madonna was decent in was "Desperately Seeking Susan". But she basically played herself in that movie, same as Courtney Love in "The People vs. Larry Flynt."
Rosanna Arquette is a far superior actress,*

*with some r-slurred political takes

Found this absolutely delightful photoshoot titled "Family BBQ"

Her eyes look so dead in this one, the lip fillers look grossly exaggerated and you can just feel the Uncanny valley exuding from her face.

Jfc nothing about these pictures looks good at all! It feels like looking at Regina George's mom posing for a trailer trash themed photo sesh.

What is Madge even doing here? She looks so off posing with this bunch of soundcloud rapper looking nobodies.

I guess the filter couldn't hold up anymore for these. Tragic.

And this is just so sad looking, like a throwaway shot taken "candidly".

She's rapidly aging out of slutty outfits and beauty photo filters! :O

Edit: Browser sperged out on me and killed all the pictures :(
