I could have sworn there was a Mafia thread people post in, but I can't find it with search.

Apparently Mafia 1 was remade recently and it blew my mind when I saw it because of how high-quality it is. That game was like a million years old and ugly as fuck and they basically just rebuilt the damn thing from scratch. 18 years later.

I only played Mafia 3 (good game, the gameplay criticisms were perfectly fair but I thought the story was awesome) and I hated Mafia 2 with a passion (so boring and juvenile). This has got my interest reinvigorated.

Now, compare this to the garbage that was the GTA trilogy's remastering or whatever they did recently.

Psn plus has the free game being mafa 2 so that should be cool. 3 is ... Ehhhh

>high-quality
lol, it's shitty reskin of Mafia 3 that butchers everything about Mafia 1
Well, I haven't played Mafia 1 or the remake, so what would I know about it besides the trailer? I mean, my whole point in comparing it to GTA was that they actually rebuilt the game, or it looks like it anyways, instead of just slightly improving the graphics.
then again, you sound like you despise Mafia
Mafia 2, yes, it was slow boring trash that should have just been the mediocre Mob movie it wanted to be with shit writing and every other word of dialogue as "fuck."
love everything about the generic Boardwalk Empire ripoff ubislop dogshit masquerading as 'Mafia 3', so you'll love it
No, motherfucker, I've made some criticisms of Mafia 3 on this site before, namely that it had a really good story and slick presentation but way too repetitive of a gameplay loop and empty world, actually about what I said in the OP.

But you seem to have an axe to grind and a bad attitude. I take it the remake disappointed you?

Just finished Mafia: DE a couple weeks ago on Classic difficulty. Mafia veterans know how difficult the race mission can be. Your shooting is nerfed with the Classic difficulty. It was more cheap than hard.

Best part about the Mafia trilogy are the Playboy collectibles.

China Lee is my favorite

I wish for Mafia: DE, they'd let you play as other characters you encounter in the story. I still need to mop up collectibles; at least it lets you do so in a "free roam" mode.

Classic Mafia 1 had good atmosphere and sound, the mission where you meet in the countryside on a stormy night. There is tension that mobsters could come out from the shadows at any given moment, wooden doors creaking and banging, rain pouring, wind blowing and what could be whispers of others as you draw closer to the truck.

The story was shit, its been done to fucking death at this point. The gameplay was boring, so simple it became a background activity.

I am not American, so the nigger porn worship just felt really stupid and childish. Might have been an interesting tale if they held back the pandering, but it had little to do with previous games, just constant "they live in the fancy houses, we are so strong, we must take back what is ours, we built America and the whites just stole it, like they do everything".

To be fair, Mafia 3 came around at the height of my personal nigger worship fatigue, so its shit story on top of crap gameplay and empty world just annoyed me.

See, I didn't get that feeling from it at all, and I can't help but feel like people who did imagined it because that's what they expected to find.

I thought it was actually really cool how it did ethnic conflict but in a way that didn't seem glamorized. It was inaccurate in having the Klan and Mafia be on the same side (they were enemies IRL) and the slavery smuggling ring was absolutely retarded, but other than that it felt to me like a really straight game of tribal warfare between two different groups. The game is very honest about how Lincoln is every bit as much of a violent amoral thug as his enemies with the preacher being the conscience. Then you get that CIA scumbag that's using him and the tie-ins to real world conspiracy theories.

It didn't preach at me. It didn't wag its finger at Whites in general, though it didn't really have any ally ethnic Southerner characters (only the Italians and Irish). I found it considerably less obnoxious about race than RDR2 despite it revolving around it, and everyone sucked that one off at first.

I feel like people hated on it because of, indeed, fatigue, but they reacted to it much worse than it deserved because of that.

I liked the shooting. It didn't do itself any favors with the rackets, though. Would have played a lot better if they'd done it like, well, actual previous Mafia games where the world is just a hub. It either needed more content or LESS content, one or the other, instead of being a good GTA clone or a good Mafia game it fell in between. But I thought it was well worth it for the story.

If you paid attention to dialogue with the Southern Union, they were reluctant against working for the Mafia. Remy himself referred to Sal as a "wop."

I liked how three dimensional many characters were during the cutscenes and plot. Hell, I even felt Sal's pain as Lincoln reigned terror against his operation and family for revenge. It could've been easy to portray Sal as some big, bad racist cutoff. It could've been easy to make Lincoln this race baiting victim with no flaws. That's likely why they allowed Lincoln to allocate territories to his lieutenants.
