They made a deal with Toho to be able to do it from what I understand.

The Kaiju cards are just alternate art versions of other cards in the set as well.

I'm a pretty big fan of Godzilla, so I'm honestly kind of hyped for these cards. Sadly they're only in the $20 collectors boosters which will guarantee any commander/eternal viable cards will be almost prohibitively expensive.

I think they might be like the Storybook/God alt arts where they do show up in draft boosters. Though 3 of the Godzilla cards are exclusive to them & Japan from what I understand. I might be a little off on that though.

They sank so much money into Arena hoping it would be Hearthstone 2 and didn't realize one of the best things about magic is the different formats and that nobody actually -likes- endlessly grinding standard.

So now they are desperately trying to boost sales.

PS : They managed to even tard this up because they are changing the name on one of the Godzilla cards after the first printing "Godzilla Death Carona." because REEEEEEEEEEEE WUUUFLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Can't have people figuring out a Corona is just the halo of light around the sun/stars.

Alright, so I used to have this friend who upon meeting me showed interest in Magic The Gathering. What I didn't know at the time was that he was the type to get mad about losing ANY game. So anyways, my other friends and I teach him how to play the game but what you need to understand is that we generally play pretty casual games with the only limitation being that we don't use cards from the joke sets. So this guy goes and dumps a ton of money into a few decks and immediately gets destroyed over and over at which point he proceeds to make tons of excuses, basically just whining about every little thing. First he said it was unfair because he was supposedly playing a theme deck, which wasn't at all true, when we were not. This was especially curious since I play nothing but themed decks. After we poked holes in that argument he declared that the only fair play style is Modern or whatever the tournament legal one is called, I always forget the naming convention. Anyways my point is I proceeded to beat him with one of those decks. Finally he tried to say Commander was really the only fair way to play and we destroyed him again numerous times and he eventually quit MTG after over a dozen temper tantrums.

It's always funny to watch and unskilled pilot crash and burn. Just cause a deck puts up results don't mean it's gonna make you put up results. You gotta practice with that shit and learn it inside and out.

Half the reason I was sad Mox Opal ate it in modern for the sins of Oko/Urza was that I had played Affinity (which didn't even really use affinity cards anymore, it was mostly metalcraft stuff) and knew the deck really well. Same for Hogaak and Faithless Looting, Izzet Phoenix was legit a fun deck to play and to play against if you know how to handle the fight.

If you were using some stuff like Demonic Tutor, Tolarian Academy, Sol Ring or any of the other older busted stuff I could kinda understand his complaints, but it sounds like he just sucks at the game.

The formats most people play are: Commander, Draft, Cube Draft, Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage. (Good luck on finding anybody to play the last two with IRL $$$)

Card prices are tanking too right now, wouldn't be a bad time to grab stuff you've wanted if you got the spare cash.

Heh, funny you should mention Sol Ring. Literally the card that started his bitching. The funny part was that the deck I used it in was otherwise completely modern so when I'd play him with it I'd just switch it out for a different artifact and pull the exact same move anyways because Sol Ring was not what made that deck stupid OP. The deck I beat him with the most though was a Dual Caster Mage + Twin Flame + Altar Of The Brood Combo in what was a deck meant to get out tokens which in turn would make you mil.

I was doing that in pioneer with a 0 casting cost artifact, Jeskai Ascendancy, creature, retraction helix, and altar. Or Mana dork, dragon mantle, Jeskai Ascendancy, and altar. Ascendancy combo is pretty decent in pioneer. Dunno how it'd fair against oracle/inverter decks though.

Hell some kid got me with a freed from the real arbor elf, land enchanted with a extra mana generator, and a mistcutter hydra one FNM when I was on Phoenix. I was actually super happy the kid got me with such a dumb thing one game. I didn't let him do it again the other two games of the match though. :D

I just love the look on an opponents face when they're milled out, being attacked by a couple of million 1/1s and at once and have no recourse for it. I mean sure, you could play Fog and stop the damage but you're dead as soon as you try to draw on your turn. It's definitely not the best deck out there but it's fun to play.

My favorite deck is called Goblineers though. Here's how it works, turn one you play a Goblin engineer. Turn 2 you play a 1 drop artifact and Faithless Looting. Drop an bog artifact in your graveyard like lets say Platnuim Angel then sack the artifact on the field and you have a turn 2 Platnuim Angel.

Opal ate it because of Emry not because of Urza and Looting frankly stayed in the format way too long given the previous stance they have had with Cantrips, It and Ancient Stirrings need(ed) to be Old Yellered out of the format for years, it is absurd that the most powerful cantrips in the format are Red and Green.

I think the printing of Underworld Breach also help usher Opal out the door.

That card barely lasted a month in the format. Did kind of enjoy the simplicity of what was a combo in a R/U/W control shell but it still needed to go.

I haven't played any legacy in quite some time, but I can only imagine with Brainfreeze + Lion's Eye Diamond what you could get up to. It's just silly from what I saw. Almost wanna throw it in my locust god commander deck just to fuck with people. Less they banned it there too and I missed it.

Breach is insane almost anywhere it can be played, the fact the spell you cast gets to just go back in the yard is really what seals it as broken. I don't see how they got the Escape mechanic right on card like the legendary Titans and think it's a good idea to have a card that does that too every spell.

Maybe they thought since Past in Flames was just a little broken (least in storm) why not just snap that shit in half?

Well they have purposely been trying to push the power in standard a bit, I think the era of BFA-Ixilan* hammered into their head that if standard is low powered people won't play it. And if people don't play Standard Arena is gonna die.

*I still maintain that Ixalan was of a decent power level, but Tribal blocks always end up being no shows because tribal is a parasitic mechanic and will never work with the blocks around it.

This wasn't a Kaiju plane. Not until Hasbro got the rights to Kaiju. We've had a handful of cards with greater P/T than six and one greater than ten. Even Commander that doesn't have standard to worry about breaking has few to no big creatures. It seems like half the cards printed are humans and monsters working together. I think WotC is blowing some smoke up our ass about the design of this plane.

Ixalan was a better Kaiju plane than this, and dinosaurs were just 1/4th of the focus.
