Hey, anyone else remember Kaladesh? How it created an environment so bad they had multiple bannings? Remember how they created Play Design so they wouldn't have a repeat of this?

Peppridge Farm remembers.

Psh, it was no Urza's Saga or the first time through Mirrodin.

Word is Play Design..didn't consider Elking Other peoples things and considered the ability to be too weak as a -1. How much do you want to bet all those "Play Design" teams are Alphabet Soup Diversity Hires.

Edit : Also Brad Nelson was on Vs Live the other day talking about How Powerful Green is in Standard/Pioneer and he places the blame on the new Mulligan being able to 100% turn 1 mana dork and turn 2 3 drop basically throws out all balance.

You hit the nail on the head, Play Design is mostly internal hires/temporary rotations and WotC is strongly pro-SJW-there was an attempt to recruit former pros/semipros when the department first started but most of them quickly resigned and weren't replaced (at least, not with other pros).

To give you an idea of how deep the idiocy goes, Lead Designer Mark Rosewater is proud not to play the game any more than he has to for his job, claims any criticism of bad writing or tokenism is racist/sexist, and dismisses criticism of bad game design as complaints from "entitled players".

EDIT:

Magic also wants to be an eSport-Oko might be disastrous for game balance but he's still going to generate a ton of hype/views and sell a ton of boosters on release day. Even pros who realize it is a mistake is going to look like are (mostly) going to swallow their pride and play him rather than effectively forfeit every event for the next six months.

(hit enter too early)

EDIT X2:

Everyone Else : Commander in paper.

And WotC is now trying to milk those players dry and kill creativity with 3 (4?) Commander products in the next year alone. Half the fun in that format was trying to adapt cards meant for 1v1/20 life into 4 player/40 life singleton.

Well MaRo is a moron and always has been, his tenure as lead design has been nothing but flopping from one idea to another with no grand plan as to the future.

Here is the future of magic.

"Official Mythic Championship" Tournament play : Standard on Arena streamed ESPORTS STYLE!!!!!! played by the 1% of the playerbase who can stomach shitty standard seasons.

Star City Games Tournament Play : The place people actually go to watch High Level magic the gathering because SSG supports Modern and Pioneer, played by 2% of the playerbase.

Everyone Else : Commander in paper.

Then they should be sacked on the spot

Literally the first thing you should consider when giving something the ability to target both players shit

is what does this do if i use it on my opponent.

But that would be Racist, Sexist, Homophobic or whatever cause they are firing some alphabet soup troon.

That is actually the opposite of what happened though, the Mythic Championship this weekend had the lowest numbers of any Mythic Championship, and Arena's numbers are slipping down as people stop playing Standard. The Second part was the thing I called by the way, I always said putting Arena purely on a single format was the worst possible idea because Standard WILDLY vairies in quality and we had just come out of years of underwhelming standard seasons between BFZ-Ixalan..with Dominaria being the first really "Good" standard in years.

Pretty much. While the SCG Tour does have its fair share of far left wackos they all at least play the game fairly. The only gripe with SCG is that they got rid of most of their Legacy tournaments including the classics. I get that Legacy doesn't make enough money to support a full open now that Pioneer is a thing but I feel the could do a classic or 2 in a season.

You know, after they got burned on JtMS, I really thought they'd taken the hint about what you shouldn't do with low-to-medium-cost planeswalkers. Remember OG Tibalt? Bitchin' art, terrible card? But they seem to have unlearned everything that Caw-Blade taught them.

The problem really isn't just the Planeswalker, Oko being pushed would be less of an issue if he didn't come with A Mana Dork that is tailor made for his use, Vraska who is almost tailor made to use Oko's +1 to gain real value, 2 Top end cards with Krasis and Nissa, Once Upon a Time to basically assure that you will be able to establish the early game curve, and Cryptic Command for 1 Green mana.

Oko by himself isn't a huge problem but they have legit just handed green every single powerful effect in the game in the past year.

Cawblade was more a matter of how the old Legend Rule worked, because the best answer for JTMS was to abuse the Legend rule with another Jace. If you had Hero's downfall in That Standard you probably wouldn't have had seen Jace be as potent as he was, which Modern (where Downfall isn't even playable) has shown because for all the Doomsaying..JTMS wasn't even the best planeswalker in that format before Oko.

Note that Oko still doesn't beat out the Gods that are Wrenn and Six..and they don't have a tailor made card for them like Oko does Goose.(Thank god, because Wrenn and Six's tailor made card would be a R/G wasteland and turn 3 "wasteland you twice" would be the most miserable thing to experience)

next set is giant monster themed

and has promo cards of famous Kaiju.

You're telling me those weren't an April Fool's gag?

I swear WotC must have some sort of quota for terrible ideas (if you don't believe me, just look at Kaladesh + Dominaria).
