That is one of the things WOTC does that drives me up a wall. This is Affinity, put affinity on the card.

It's funny with Tezzeret, Master of the Bridge they actually put the word Affinity on it. I guess cause it's a promo card they figured it'd be safe?

the issue is you and i know what affinity is, but the 12 year old playing pre release has nfi

its why they keep each set to having only 3-4 mechanics plus the evergreen ones

if you put affinity for artifacts on the card you have to write wtf affinity for artifacts means on it as well, and suddenly you have a single card in a set that has a keyword.

All True, but I myself find those reasons to be not as important as consistency of formatting.

PS while I am bitching. The "Adventure" card format is fucking ugly garbage.

Well if formatting was their primary goal, half the mecahnics they released would just be rebranded kicker XD

adventure cards look like dogs bollocks and are probbaly the ugliest looking card format theyve ever made, and that takes some doing

Well it would be nice in 8 years when they do a Random EDH commander printing that is focused on Landfall triggers for things like Tireless Tracker to actually be synergistic with it.

I kinda understand why they don't put Keywords on cards in standard that aren't focuses of the set(but I really liked Modern Horizons being a big boy expansion), it'd be nice if they looked at those as a pool of possible reprints where they correct that outside of standard though.

They've done that with some cards that effectively scry'd before scry was a thing I do believe.

Opt from Invasion block was the first to have that mechanic without calling it scry iirc

That would be at least one of them. Not sure if there are anymore for scry. (I'd be willing to bet there are a couple more.)

Soldevi Excavations from Alliances is the only other card to have a scry effect before it got keyworded, just over 3 years before Opt in Invasion and just under 8 years before it became a keyword in Fifth Dawn.

Source ("old frame" in the search options refers to the pre-Mirrodin aka good card frames).

Their latest sets have been pretty garbo. Even though I haven’t played for years, I enjoy keeping up to date with the newer sets. With that said, and with all of their stupid new mechanics, I’m surprised they haven’t brought back banding.

They wouldn't touch banding with a 10-foot pole. It's way too much rules baggage/complicated for their current line of thinking, I do believe there is a chance of seeing flanking, bushido, or phasing again though.

Honestly War of the Spark and Modern Horizons were a lot better than the things they were doing pre-Ravnica 3.

Honestly War of the Spark was pretty powerful, Narset is seeing play in almost every constructed format, and The New Teferi has edged out Old Teferi and is pushing against Jace in Modern.

Edit : I want to expand on this a little, because it is a very common "comment" about new sets, Just because a Card is incredibly powerful doesn't mean it will see play, especially in Eternal Formats. An incredibly powerful card can exist and just not a have a shell within the card pool to use.

A Really good example of this is a Card Called Monastery Mentor, it is a card that didn't make a huge splash in Standard or Modern..but was powerful enough in Vintage to be restricted.

Double Edit : The current set also has what..may be the single most powerful counterspell/Kill spell in the entire game.

Hell, Karn, the Great Creator just got restricted in Vintage during the last B&R announcement.
