Don't care if it is less powerful we just had to ban this style of effect out of a bunch of formats and they know people can understand a more complex version of how this is supposed to work because we have expend.

They wont stop printing cards that dick around with mana costs so they really need to stop printing cards like this

Doesn't fit in a deck constructed deck though. The reason Beanstalk was good was the floor on it was a 2 mana cantrip for slow grindy decks that threatened drawing more cards unless you had specific interaction for enchants. Putting this in a slow grindy deck just gives them a target for the creature removal they drew game 1 and can only safely block 1 power. I think even if you're in a grindy standard overlord/warp deck already this doesn't make the cut, if you want more 1 for 1s fill this slot with 1-2 mana removal and you're going to be much happier. I might see this being playable in a reanimator deck but even then not really excited for ways to pitch cards that my opponent has a full turn cycle to think about.

Thinking about it, there's some chance this is playable in pauper along side Tolerian Terror but I think it's too slow and fragile for pauper too.

All true, its also Blue instead of green so it works with Force of Will, and Jeskai Blink in Modern runs Fable in the 3 slot and this triggers off Riddler and Solitude.

Not gonna lie, the Special Guest cards for Lorwyn are honestly some of the best looking ones I’ve seen them do yet. The set overall is shaping up to be a strong start to the year.

Hakbal will work as he's the top Merfolk commander but unless there's a Bant Merfolk that actually cares about the tribe the best choice is currently Hakbal, Kumena, or New Sygg if you want the new shit.

You can probably get away with building leviathan tribal or use the different effects that make all creatures into a chosen type.

Hakbal will work as he's the top Merfolk commander but unless there's a Bant Merfolk that actually cares about the tribe the best choice is currently Hakbal, Kumena, or New Sygg if you want the new shit.

Hakbal is a good commander that can mix Merfolk and Sea Monsters. Explore triggers let you always hit your land drops.

It's fine, but nothing special.

WHY are they making sorcerer a new and distinct tribal from wizard

They went on a spiel a ways back about deprecating Shaman, because Modern-Day Wizards. Tarkir and Avatar both had 0 shamans, despite how obvious the type would have fit.

Sorcerer is effectively what they're using in its place, even if the connotation is completely different. That doesn't exactly matter to a creative team that actively disdains the product it's working on, though.

Granted, I haven't been keeping super well track. But it seems like things have shifted to where factions swap between their two lorwyn colors compared to the shadowmoor two color pairs. At least, that's how it comes off as with Sygg being U -> W and an elf being G -> B. Elementals swapped to R -> U instead of B, and I bet there's some reason why fae won't swap despite Oona being gone.

They felt more shadowbox to me. I’m more interested in them because I’ve been delving into using all the bulk I have sitting around to make 3d cards, and they look like prime candidates if I can get them for cheap.
