I don't know if I agree here, I really think the cards are underrated and not too dry at all. I think the community consensus is that they are dry and a lot of people take that as fact, but having played a bunch of it I personally think it's a decent set. Myriad and Goad led to a lot of fun gameplay and politics, Trisha and Elminster are fairly unique and interesting commanders, Copper Dragon is very strong, Displacer Kitten is crazy. Alaundo is a pretty janky card I'm currently working on a deck for - idk, I think if you took most of the set out of context of it's name and placement/timing, it's fun. Definitely was a lot more fun limited than SNC.
My wife hasn't liked my "Eliminster and His Bitches" deck all that much. Not because it wins or anything, but because of it's name. I'm just keeping it as thematically accurate as possible.

Overseer is such a stupid, cracked-ass common that the whole thing is weighted towards white tempo decks, it's kindof dumb.
I really don't understand how that card got made. Priest of Ancient Lore was probably the best white common in AFR and then they make it again only with flying and swapping a mostly irrelevant Dwarf type for mostly cancer Angel type. Like I'm glad for the buff to my pauper blink deck but fuck off printing new tools for angels for one second.

They've very clearly had some issues with getting reliable and intelligent playtesting for a while now, and I wouldn't be surprised if a designer was subtly influenced by the whole "white has bad card draw in edh" meme and decided to juice a standard card for no damn reason. Genuinely if the card was 1WW it would still be cracked, but making it less splashable would have gone a ways towards making it less of a "hmmm do i take this crazy bomb mythic, or do i take this common"

Apparently drafters are voting with their wallets, 17lands (biggest tracker of draft data for Arena) is seeing 1/5 the games for the alchemy draft set vs Streets of New Caprenna.
almost like forcing a failed format won't make it work

you almost feel bad for the intern who sucked so much dick to make "magic, but it's hearthstone!" get to production and then started tonguing anuses to desperately try to push it onto a population that was clearly uninterested

Well, my 2X2 draft box was "lost" by Amazon, so RIP that order (got a refund, still pissed as I ordered months ago when it was like $250). However, my single collectors box came and in the first pack got a textured foil Emrakul (photo from random ebay listing)

Got to say, the texture foils are actually incredibly cool, even better in person though if you zoom in you can see it better. Got my full-art Smothering Tithe and Chaos Warp too so I got everything I wanted out of it. Will pick up the other singles I want next week once they floor out.

Played a draft of it with a token I had sitting around and I was not impressed myself, less RNG then I imagined but the specialize mechanic is way overcosted and the power level on cards is all over the place

Reddit is filled with faggots who cherrypick any data presented to shit on whatever the hivemind hates. 17lands tracking only works with people who use the 17lands tracking app. AKA only people fairly invested into limited drafting are going to use it. Alchemy is a casual-first format, which is the opposite demographic of those who use 17L. AKA this data, while not totally useless (it does showcase people who take limited serious enough to have a tracking app don't play Alchemy) is a poor indicator of the overall performance of the format. Not to mention, this doesn't capture any mobile games, which is how >50% of players (and a majority of casual players) engage with the game.

I did a few drafts, it's not terrible honestly. Reddit is the absolute worst place to gather a consensus around anything as they are mostly LMTGB+ jobless retards who wouldn't know a good set from dogshit. I'm not a huge fan of the format, but I do think the hate it gets is far overdone.

Well, up until the economy takes a dump - I know I had to stop buying cards thanks to my bills getting tight.

Most of the people I know have been using proxy cards for years. But it's legacy/vintage so unless you only want to play once a year, you've got to. The new cards are too expensive for what they are, though I'll pick up a box of any draftable non-standard stuff here and there.

This commander's gate set doesn't look worth the cost unless you're an edh consoomer.

So from what I hear they'll be inserting Legends cards into collector boxes of the new Dominaria set. However, they will make sure to not include some cards if they come up, such as Invoke Prejudice and Gwendlyn.

Remember this is banned from print because it's too sexual

But this is encouraged and special

I hate globohomo.

List of cards excluded for being "problematic" (looks like any art from Herald Mcniell is haram):

Gwendlyn I didn't even know about until I was watching Rudy and he brought it up. I mean, come on, Wizards, if you're otherwise just going to put those in a vault (or more likely just embezzle them for more cocaine), the very least you could do would be to sharpie on a burka and put them in the packs.

Limited edition Burka Gwen would be a hot collectors item. The funny thing is the art is by a woman who seems to be your run of the mill sort of hippie type that doesn't use social media, so would be interesting to hear he views on the card being haram. I couldn't find any statement by her on it, and she keeps a low profile, though does have a website

You guy's still anti-proxy in here? Don't buy their shit.
I've never been particularly anti-proxy, and I remember back in the day there was a popular vintage tournament circuit which allowed up to 10 proxies and even had artist cards that would serve as additional proxies. Those were given out to the top 4 in addition to any other prizes and looked good. From what I remember it got big enough that WotC sent them a cease and desist and it killed the scene.

I just don't think cards having value and proxies being allowed in some capacity are mutually exclusive, maybe in Standard that's the case, but in older format you probably wouldn't see much of a price swing as the people who own those at this point do so for the history and value, not just game pieces. You could also attract more players to Legacy/Vintage with limited official proxies allowed.

I don't see any reason to be anti-proxy, it's not as though WotC sends me a cut and fuck the secondary market for my children's card game. I haven't played paper in >20 years and while my collection is old enough that it's age gives it some value it's not a fucking investment and anyone who treats it as such without several layers of irony should be shot.

Remember when unsets had fun cards but with decent art for the most part? Well fuck you, here's some shitty sticker cards and they're legal in other formats like Commander and Legacy. Consoom and take you're fucking like a good pig.

The sticker sheet uses a very light glue (think Post It Note glue) that can be used numerous times and won’t harm the card it’s stickered on.

Each sticker sheet has three name stickers, three art stickers, two ability stickers, and two power/toughness stickers. Both the ability stickers and power/toughness stickers require some number of tickets as a cost to use. (More on tickets in a moment.)

There are forty-eight different sticker sheets. No name, art, or ability stickers are reused between sticker sheets although some power/toughness ones are repeated.
The majority, but not all, of the cards that can sticker or care about stickers are eternal playable (usable in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage).

Stickers stay on in any public zone (battlefield, graveyard, and exile), but return to the sticker sheet if they go to a non-public zone (hand or library). If a sticker goes back to the sticker sheet you can use it again with a different sticker it effect.

In constructed, you bring ten unique sticker sheets and randomly pick three before the start of each game. We will have an on-line tool to let you randomly pick any three sticker sheets. If you don’t have the actual sticker sheets, you are allowed to write on slips of paper. In booster draft, you keep the sticker sheets you open.

"silver border is too confusing"
"let's insert unset mechanics that depend on you having a DECK of auxiliary cards arbitrarily into eternal formats"

yeah, maro of "mutate and companion are both great mechanics" fame is behind this

"silver border is too confusing"

This mentality from WOTcucks really frustrates me. I never got a chance to play with unglued or unhinged, but I played unstable limited loads and built an uncube, and I’ve had no issue getting people that are largely beginner level to play with the cards. Wizards has an issue with printing actually bad cards in unsets that fit flavor better then function. Power creep sucks in normal sets but in the gag set? These stickers look like they’re going to give abilities that will make for a less fun draft experience (infect?? Double exalted??)

Many of the cards with the stickers are actually under silver border legality (banned everywhere but places where you establish the rule of fun holds sway) . There are sticker cards that are eternal legal though. Problem is that they didn't give the illegal cards a silver border.

1658958446342.png

One of these cards is legal in eternal, one isn't. Do you know which is which? Will the people at your commander game?

The one with the normal oval holo at the bottom is eternal legal, the one with the acorn holo is silver border.

The explanation I heard is that Maro was seething because the Commander Rules Committee didn't go over literally every silver border card card by card to decide legality so he is beating them to the punch by declaring some of them eternal.

I also haven't seen any sticker cards that seem anywhere near good enough to see play in legacy/vintage/cEDH but maybe they are just hiding and it's not as though they test anything. I sort of like the part of the sticker mechanic that lets you splice a word into the names of cards since it's a cute way to get around the legend rule and cards like pithing needle.

Maybe I'm wrong but I expect that you'll see even less sticker cards in legacy/vintage/cEDH then you do dungeon cards or day/night. I can see them definitely being a thing in pauper and friendly EDH though.
