So on the mtg page giving a "first look" at Bloomburrow they explained for us:

So I guess furry Jace is more of a "what if" than him actually changing.

Though it also wouldn't surprise me if they phrased it this way to see how the public reacts and then they'll go with whichever answer gets them the least heat.

I'm not opposed to the idea of a plane changing their form, but the blatant furry pandering is too much for me.

I mean if there was any group of people with too much disposable income and poor impulse control to peddle your children's card game/terrible investment strategy to it would be fucking furries. I'd want them on board too if I was Hasbro.

That is why I really don't buy it is pandering to furries.

It would be too smart for WOTC. I think it is just pandering to "ZOMG ITS A CUTE LITTLE OTTER DRESSED LIKE RAL ITS LIKE A HECKEN CUTE ANIMAL" people.

Edit : Note how many Hecken Doggos we get now. WOTC is chasing the wine aunt demo as hard as Nicky Rackets.

I just sat down to play some Standard on Arena after a lengthy break and it's all turn 3 aggro decks and turn 4 solitaire yugioh combo decks now? What the hell's going on with the format, I don't remember it ever being this bad.

That's just how Bo1 standard on Arena goes. Arena incentivizes fast games economically and fragile aggro that kills t3 or t4 and dies after sideboarding is a very cheap and economically efficient way to play when no one is coming in prepared for aggro and sideboarding doesn't exist. Same with combo decks like that. If you play Bo3 you'll get a much better experience.

Apologies for the Necro, this was the first thread I found specifically for MtG.

I'm a painfully new player to it all. I bought a commander deck a year ago (Mind Flayarrrs, back when it released) but I've never actually used it, nor have I ever actually played a game of MtG. I was wondering if anyone had any good resources/recommendations on where to start, where to learn about playing the game, etc.

Arena is gay and cringe but it is a good way to learn the basics of the game.

I would say Magic online after that but the commander playrooms are kind of toxic as hell

I'd almost tell them to start with draft on arena... a tiny bit, maybe on Xmage but it's dogshit now. (apparently .de server is gone now so it's impossible to keep it stable enough to run vintage cube)

Yeah they'd be way more obnoxious about it if they were actually trying to pander to furries imo

I can't speak to the "Not Official Clients" the few times I really ever tried using them the groups I looked into ended up being stupid faggots who run the exact same CEDH deck over and over.

Arena is definitely the best way to start learning the basics. However, depending on where you live you could look into playing at your local game store and seeing if people there will teach you. The other option is looking around various discords and seeing if any of those have magic games running, but you'll probably have to install cockatrice to play in those.

Beyond what everyone here is recommending, YouTubers like LegenVD or Magic Aids can provide some potentially good explanations of different decks in standard and modern formats and could help you absorb some play patterns. As for commander, Salubrious Snail is a channel that has drawn my attention for having a much more enjoyable way of building and running commander decks. Otherwise, find a good game store in your area that has casual commander nights and see about showing up and making friends. Hopefully you don’t have to deal with too many sweaty tryhards in your journey into magic.

Shop around to local game stores and shout "NIGGERS". Places where they get mad at you are the players you want to learn from. Places where they don't get mad at you, you'll want to play at.

Don't want to shit up the thread to much but a few friends each bought one of the warhammer 40k commander decks and am wondering if anyone had a good (ideally cheap) precons to play against each other.

Big thing is for the decks to be somewhat balanced around each other rather then card value in fact cheaper garbage decks would likely be better.

Are you wanting actual built and sold by WOTC precon recommendations or just lists we’ve built that are lower power and play well? If the former, the commander 2015 lists, as they’re balanced against each other and still fun to play. For the latter, while I don’t have any lists handy, I recommend picking a set like khans of tarkir or maze’s end and limiting yourself to only cards from that set to build around. You can really do this with any set, but that era of magic is a bit more fine tuned internally imo and has enough variety to still be interesting. Mazes end is also dirt fucking cheap, so that’s a win/win.

Wizards tries pretty hard to make all the precon decks that release with a set balanced against each other.

If you want to get a good experience with as little investment as possible for 4 people, I'd recommend picking up all 4 of the precon decks for a set that uses Wizards' IP and playing that. I've played using all 4 of the MKM precons as a pod and it was a really good time.

If you want to make cheap decks that should be relatively balanced against each other, but aren't precons I'd recommend setting a budget limit and building within that. There's plenty of fun cards that aren't particularly strong in an absolute sense, but are immensely fun, and are still good guides to build your deck around while being dirt cheap and able to be fueled by dirt cheap cards.

Built and sold by ideally. This isn't really for magic players or collectors but treating it as a option in a rotating board game night.

I know enough I could get some basic precons but something that comes in it's own self contained product would be great. Will check on the 2015 sets.

The other thing I would recommend is getting either of the commander anthology sets. It’s basically commander the board game and each of the decks is pretty balanced (mostly)
